Midway through the second quarter, Koo and the Giants lined up for a 47-yard field goal to make it a one-score game.

Instead, Koo messed up uniquely. The kicker seemingly planted his left foot too close to the ball and ended up kicking the ground instead of the football. He never actually made contact, forcing the holder to desperately try and make something out of nothing. It didn’t work, and New York turned the ball over on downs.

Note: Technically, this was a sack, but let’s be real: this is Koo’s fault.

You don’t see this every day…

NYGvsNE on ESPN/ABC
Stream on @NFLPlus and ESPN App pic.twitter.com/vBJ0NkiMgP

— NFL (@NFL) December 2, 2025

Is Younghoe Koo’s Missed Kick The Worst Ever?

Younghoe Koo’s kick was bad, but was it the worst in NFL history? To determine this, let’s take a look at some of the biggest misses of all-time and see where Koo’s miscue ranks.

Before we begin, a few disclaimers. Lists like these are inherently subjective, so this is just one writer’s personal opinion. Also note that this list also factors in the importance of the kick and the weight of the missed opportunity.

Main Photo: Eric Canha – Imagn Images

4. John Carney

The 2003 New Orleans Saints entered Week 16 needing to win out to stand any chance of making the playoffs. Their season appeared to be at an end when they trailed 20-13 and had to go 75 yards for a touchdown in just a few seconds. Despite all odds, New Orleans pulled off a multi-lateral touchdown to save their season and score a touchdown as time expired. All they needed to do was hit the extra point to send the game to overtime and save their season.

Unfortunately, kicker John Carney shanked the extra point, and the Saints lost, 20-19, in regulation. Not only did this kick end the game, but it also ended the Saints season. To miss a chip-shot extra point after such an unreal play earns him a spot on this list, especially when you consider the stakes of the kick.

3. Younghoe Koo

If this list focused solely on the kicks themselves and completely ignored the circumstances of the kick, Younghoe Koo’s miss would be at the top of this list. If you’ve ever gone golfing, you know how embarrassing it can be to whiff on your ball and hit nothing but a patch of grass. Now imagine doing that in front of a national audience.

Younghoe Koo’s kick was terrible, and people will laugh at it for a few weeks. However, in the grand scheme of things, it didn’t change the league in any way, shape, or form. The Patriots would have still won this game if Koo had put it through the uprights, and the Giants would still be 2-11. Given the low-stakes nature of the miss, you can’t put Koo any higher than third on this list.

2. Gary Anderson

Gary Anderson is one of the best kickers in NFL history, and it’s a cruel twist of fate that a player this good earns a spot on a list like this. The 1998 season was a magical one for the Minnesota Vikings, as the team went 15-1 and looked like the best team in football. Making it all the way to the NFC Championship Game, Anderson had the opportunity to effectively ice the game by kicking a 38-yard field goal to make it a two-score game with just over two minutes left.

Instead, Anderson missed the kick, which allowed the Falcons to eventually win the game. This miss is bad enough on its own, but it’s even worse when you look at his overall body of work. Anderson was automatic throughout the 1998 season, connecting on all 35 of his regular season attempts. Unfortunately for everyone in Minnesota, his lone miss cost the team a trip to the Super Bowl.

1. Scott Norwood

Younghoe Koo’s missed kick might be uglier, but he didn’t cost the Giants a Super Bowl. Scott Norwood, on the other hand, missed a kick that would have won a championship. Then-defensive coordinator Bill Belichick held Jim Kelly and the Buffalo Bills offense to just 19 points through the first 59 minutes of Super Bowl XXV, but Norwood had the chance to win the game with a 47-yard field goal.

Instead, he missed it, wide right. The New York Giants live on in history, while Norwood is best known for the most impactful miss in NFL history. It’s essentially the Malcolm Butler interception of kicks.

Younghoe Koo’s missed kick on Monday Night Football is one of the worst in recent memory, but is it historically bad.

[6431,3,26,5,28,20
3136
post-257087","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-teams","category-bills","category-vikings","category-patriots","category-saints","category-giants","tag-younghoe-koo
["GET
