After spending less than a season with the Detroit Lions, the team has cut cornerback Arthur Maulet in a surprise move. The secondary issues for the Lions continue to haunt them since their NFC Divisional Round disaster last year against the Washington Commanders. Despite signing a few promising secondary men in an attempt to boost the corps, DJ Reed and other talent on the roster haven’t been able to stay healthy. Oddly, the Lions did indeed cut Maulet<\/a> ever since signing him originally to the practice squad while dealing with injuries to Terrion Arnold<\/a> and Khalil Dorsey as well.<\/p>\n

Breaking: Lions Cut Former Undrafted Talent Arthur Maulet; 3 Teams Could Sign Him<\/h2>\n

Since his debut in Week 6 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Maulet was in a situational role where he went on to record 14 tackles, one pass defensed and an interception. It’s not the best numbers from him or any cornerback that would intrigue a team to offer him the top-notch contract, but given that he has had over 170 snaps between Week 6 to now, it’s still decent. Maulet isn’t expected to light up a team’s secondary or make game-altering moves to put a defense in a different momentum, but he’s still a solid fit as a backup. With Reed and Dorsey back from IR, there wasn’t room for Maulet anymore, but his potential should interest these three teams.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1. Dallas Cowboys<\/h3>\n

The Dallas Cowboys are back in the postseason conversation with a chance to play in a wild-card matchup in January. After coming back from a 21-0 deficit<\/a>, the season is far from over for this team. Cornerback Trevon Diggs is reportedly improving, but it’s hard to see him in a Cowboy uniform for next season. After dealing with injuries and inconsistency issues, he becomes a cut candidate due to the salary cap.<\/p>\n

They already waived Kaiir Elam, and while they tried to find depth in Robert Rochell and other unproven talents, it hasn’t paved much of anything. Even though the Cowboys’ secondary found some life in the matchup against the Eagles, the team should consider Maulet. He could be a perfect fit for a season to help DaRon Bland as the leader of this group.<\/p>\n

2. New England Patriots<\/h3>\n

The offense is on fire for the Patriots, but the team has built itself one of the most underrated defenses this past offseason. With the Patriots looking to make a deep playoff run for the first time since the Tom Brady Era, the Patriots should sign a cornerback like Maulet for depth. New England has two solid starters in Carlton Davis<\/a> and Christian Gonzalez, but they lack depth if they lose one of them. Maulet isn’t god, but he’s better than what they have in their reinforcements.<\/p>\n

3. Los Angeles Chargers<\/h3>\n

The Chargers are also trying to make a deep playoff run for the first time in the Jim Harbaugh era in Los Angeles. Even though the team has one of the deepest secondary units, they could use one more to assist Donte Jackson, Cam Hart and Derwin James. After trading Alohi Gilman, the Chargers had to make a few adjustments in the nickel, so maybe they could sign Maulet on a low-stakes deal to fill the void and allow James to return to his starting safety role.<\/p>\n
