The San Francisco 49ers have gone through back-to-back offseason drama, but one insider believes that the team won’t use the franchise tag on wide receiver Jauan Jennings after the year. While the 49ers are looking to be a legitimate contender in January, they have some soup waiting to be stirred up in March, which means there could be more drama awaiting the wideout. According to the source<\/a>, they believe the 49ers will not offer Jennings a lucrative contract, who is set to become a free agent this upcoming offseason. It won’t be the first time that San Francisco refused to give an offer in Jennings’ favor, but it’s due to Brandon Aiyuk<\/a>, whose contract is still in the books.<\/p>\n

Ever since extending both Aiyuk and quarterback Brock Purdy, the athletes haven’t been able to stay healthy for the majority of the 2025 season. This hasn’t stopped the 49ers from succeeding, but one has to wonder about the possible implications it may have on attempting future players years from now. Jennings requested a trade from the team this past offseason, but the 49ers scrambled for an incentive deal to at least keep him from moving on.<\/p>\n

However, they don’t have a choice here. The 49ers might be willing to let Jennings hit the market and try to get Aiyuk up to speed for next season. With that, Jennings is still a prominent receiver in this league, recording his first-ever 1,000 receiving yards. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been effective this year, and these teams could target him to revive his career.<\/p>\n

1. Carolina Panthers<\/h3>\n

The Carolina Panthers are having a resurgent season this year<\/a>. Rookie wide receiver Tetaiora McMillan is having a breakout, which has helped the team to be 5-5 and could sneak in a wild-card spot. While Bryce Young is finally thriving, head coach Dave Canales should continue to build the aerial attack for him. McMillan and Jalen Coker are arguably one of his best receivers on the roster, but the same can’t be said about Xavier Legette<\/a> and veteran Hunter Renfrow.<\/p>\n

Legette had a few inconsistencies, and Renfrow could retire. Jennings could emerge and call Carolina his home and turn into a formidable weapon alongside McMillan in 2026.<\/p>\n

2. Los Angeles Chargers<\/h3>\n

Similar to the Panthers, Justin Herbert is finally thriving and throwing the football more now that they are forced to be without an adequate run game. Jim Harbaugh still wants to help him in that unit, but they must value the aerial attack as well. Veteran Keenan Allen is having himself a season this year, but he is getting old and may retire in the next two to three years. This means the Chargers should be looking for the next big-time receiver to accommodate Ladd McConkey<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Jennings could receive a prominent role in this offense if given the opportunity. He has the hands and vertical similar to Allen if he ends up retiring.<\/p>\n

3. New England Patriots<\/h3>\n

The Patriots have the money to splurge this upcoming offseason, who will already be coming off one of their best seasons since the Tom Brady era. Mike Vrabel should continue to build the wide receiver unit for Drake Maye<\/a> since he’s playing his best football. Stefon Diggs, Mack Hollins and Kayshon Boutte have done phenomenally well to get open in the right spots, but Jennings could be the superstar that changes the scene.<\/p>\n

The Patriots are known to make splashes in the offseason during the Bill Belichick era, and Vrabel should follow the same philosophy.<\/p>\n
