However, Saunders barely had any playing time, so it was a bit of a head scratcher as to why they traded for him in August to boost the defensive line. The 29-year-old logged just 25 snaps, so teams who are might look into him might not offer him the best contract, but one that fits within their budget.

Breaking: Jaguars Cut Khalen Saunders – 4 Next Destinations, Ranked

The good news is that Saunders has a chance to join a contender before the playoffs start in January. The Jaguars are probably making a bid in the wild-card, but several talented teams could use a depth guy like Saunders. Originally selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Western Illinois product isn’t the same powerful defensive player down the middle, but he’s still reliable in situational moments. Saunders should be able to find a new home after Week 11, and here are four teams that could acquire him.

1. Kansas City Chiefs

A reunion with the Chiefs wouldn’t be surprising, as they already brought back Mike Pennel in the huddle. Defensive tackle star Chris Jones wants Saunders to return, and this addition would benefit them in the long run for depth. The Chiefs haven’t looked the same since two seasons ago, and at 5-4, they could about any upgrade either on offense or defense. Saunders might be aging, but what the Chiefs need is experience.

Kansas City will likely play in the wild-card for the first time in years, so they need to stay healthy, and Saunders could be ready for the moment when it comes.

Sep 28, 2025; Kansas City, Missouri, USA; Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Chris Jones (95) takes the field prior to a game against the Baltimore Ravens at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Baltimore Ravens

Despite losing Michael Pierce to retirement last offseason, the Baltimore Ravens never found an adequate replacement at the defensive tackle position. Veteran John Jenkins is only a band-aid to the problem, so the Ravens should be interested in acquiring Saunders. Baltimore has to face teams like the Chargers, Bills and Chiefs, so the way they can get ahead is by filling in the gaps on defensive help. With Nnamdi Madubuike out for the year, this signing wouldn’t be surprising.

Dec 17, 2023; Jacksonville, Florida, USA; Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Justin Madubuike (92) celebrates after beating the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium. Dallas Cowboys

At 3-5-1, the Dallas Cowboys aren’t necessarily out of the playoff picture. This is why they made a trade for Quinnen Williams and Logan Wilson for defensive help. With Kenny Clark struggling, they could use some depth behind him, especially to fill in the gap for Solomon Thomas. The good news is that the Cowboys have a ton of depth at the defensive tackle position, but Saunders may be the missing puzzle to have a ferocious true blitz unit.

Oct 27, 2024; Foxborough, Massachusetts, USA; New York Jets defensive end Solomon Thomas (94) takes a selfie with a fan before the start of the game against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. Los Angeles Chargers

While the Los Angeles Chargers offense has been on fire, they can’t afford to ignore the defense. This is where defensive trenches win ball games in the postseason, which the Chargers are aiming to change from last season’s playoffs. Teair Tart lost his best duo, Poona Ford, last offseason and didn’t make a massive upgrade. Saunders is far from perfect, but he has the size that Jim Harbaugh would love to see in a true trench wizard.

Oct 5, 2025; Inglewood, California, USA; Los Angeles Chargers defensive tackle Teair Tart (90) runs on to the field for the game against the Washington Commanders at SoFi Stadium.
