With the 2025 season over for the New York Giants, since they’re 2-8, they have named veteran Jameis Winston as the starter for the upcoming matchup against the Green Bay Packers. According to reports<\/a>, the Giants named him the starter in the wake of firing head coach Brian Daboll as they promoted him from the third-string spot over fellow teammate, Russell Wilson.\u00a0 Winston signed a two-year contract this past offseason, but there could be reason to believe that this might be a real opportunity for him to shine to garner trade interest this upcoming offseason. With rookie Jaxson Dart<\/a> being the future of this offense, but still in concussion protocol, the Giants should entertain the idea of letting Winston pick where he wants to land if he winds up performing well against Green Bay.<\/p>\n

Jameis Winston May “Audition” For New Role After Named Starter – 3 Future Teams in 2026<\/h2>\n

Interim head coach Mike Kafka is working closely with Winston, who will be playing in his first game since Week 15 of last season when he was with the Cleveland Browns. Selected as a first-round pick in 2015 as a former Buccaneer, the former Florida State product has been waiting for the moment, and now will get a shot to prove he still has gas left in the tank. Barring any unfortunate circumstance, the former Pro Bowler should impress, and these three teams might keep a close for the future of their offenses.<\/p>\n

1. Carolina Panthers<\/h3>\n

The Panthers this season have surprised a lot of folks throughout the league, and they’re currently 5-5 while being in second place in the NFC South. Carolina might come up short of bidding a ticket to a wild-card, but the future is bright for the offense, especially for running back Rico Dowdle, who has been carrying the weight of the run game.<\/a> However, it doesn’t take away credit for quarterback, Bryce Young<\/a>, who’s been showing some life, but one can only imagine what Winston can do in this Panthers offense.<\/p>\n

This isn’t to say that Young can’t continue to improve, but the young quarterback did still show some inconsistencies in the latest loss to the Saints. The Panthers are secretly forming a special offense, which is something they can’t let go to waste when you have rookie Tetairoa McMillan. Veteran backup Andy Dalton is only a bridge, but the Panthers should trade for Winston in the offseason to bring some real competition for Young.<\/p>\n

2. Los Angeles Rams<\/h3>\n

Veteran Matthew Stafford<\/a> is probably having one of the best seasons in his long-term NFL career. Without throwing an interception for the past several weeks, Stafford is on pace to win an MVP. Despite that, he is aging, and the retirement teaser from last year’s playoffs shows that he might have a good 2-3 season at minimum. Stafford is still under contract through after reworking it this past offseason, but when you have a good coach like Sean McVay, they should trade for Winston.<\/p>\n

Winston is old himself, but the Rams are always prone to success when dealing with experienced veterans. However, the Rams could trade for Winston to develop him once Stafford is done and wants to pass the torch.<\/p>\n

3. Arizona Cardinals<\/h3>\n

If anyone needs a quarterback after the 2025 season, it’s the Arizona Cardinals. After letting Kyler Murray nurse his latest injury<\/a> in favor of giving Jacoby Brissett a chance to shine, it might signal the end for the former starting quarterback. Brissett had one “out of nowhere” performance against a depleted Dallas defense, but couldn’t deliver the same energy to the Seahawks. Winston is a perfect solution to boost some type of momentum in that locker room and could be a solid fit while the anticipation is that the Cardinals will draft a new quarterback next year.<\/p>\n
