After failing to find a team this past offseason, it could be time for free agent Justin Simmons to return to the NFL at the right time, with the playoffs around the corner. Bleacher Report has Simmons as the top free agent<\/a>, which is no surprise, as the safety is shockingly still available. Still, it could be any week that a team may present him a solid opportunity on a one-year contract. However, Simmons is only going to sign with a contender, and that made it harder for just any team to reach out to him since the teams that are close to a postseason might not make a move until a week before the playoffs start in January.<\/p>\n

3 Possible Destinations for Four-Time All-Pro NFL Free Agent Justin Simmons, Ranked<\/h2>\n

The top veteran isn’t going to light up the field anymore, but the former Boston College product came off a promising season with the Atlanta Falcons. Despite the situation in Atlanta, Simmons still made an impact, and it’s only to wonder if the NFL interceptions co-leader in 2016 is going to win a ring before he decides to retire. At age 31, it shouldn’t be surprising if a team signs him as soon as this week. The safety should be on most contenders’ radars, and it would be a huge blow to him if a team doesn’t sign him, but there shouldn’t be any worry, as the veteran will probably sign with these three teams at some point.<\/p>\n

1. Washington Commanders<\/h3>\n

The idea of Simmons playing for his hometown team wouldn’t be the worst, as the Commanders could still make a run for the playoffs, but for next season. If no team decides to take a chance on Simmons, he might have to suit up to strengthen this Commanders defense, that one of the worst. While they did face injuries to Dorance Armstrong Jr.,<\/a> it can’t compensate way how cornerback Marshon Lattimore played. With Lattimore likely to be gone after this year, Simmons could be the latest known name to join the Commanders this upcoming offseason to help streamline this secondary alongside Darnell Savage<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2. Dallas Cowboys<\/h3>\n

Simmons would fill the biggest need for the Dallas Cowboys’ pass secondary. The team lost Trevon Diggs due to a strange injury and is already without Donovan Wilson and Malik Hooker. The depth in the safety unit is one of the worst, and they can’t afford to put all of the stress on second-year Juanyeh Thomas. Simmons’ presence would immediately fill the need that the Cowboys would benefit from, as the 3-5-1 team isn’t looking to tank due to the addition of Quinnen Williams<\/a> and Logan Wilson.<\/p>\n

3. Indianapolis Colts<\/h3>\n

The trade for Sauce Gardner<\/a> before the deadline shows the Indianapolis Colts are trying to win a Super Bowl sooner rather than later. Despite a rough game against the Steelers, quarterback Daniel Jones has been on fire. While the offense has been shattering yards and has been able to succeed with a well-rounded team, they still need to show the potential on defense, and Simmons’ addition would be like icing on the cake right before the playoffs.<\/p>\n
