In the wake of the trade deadline, the New York Jets will bench All-Pro linebacker Quincy Williams as the shakeup continues for the defensive roster. According to multiple reports<\/a>, Williams isn’t happy, but he isn’t surprised that the Jets made this move, as the expectation will be that the team will embrace the rebuild, which they’re already doing. After trading their best cornerback, Sauce Gardner<\/a>, and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, Quincy is the next man up who will become a free agent this upcoming offseason, as they were trying to trade him as well with his brother Quinnen. Originally selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Murray State product has been one of the better linebackers in the league, having a phenomenal 2023 campaign.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, injuries caught up to him since signing his three-year, $18 million deal with the Jets. Williams did return this season while recovering from a shoulder injury for the first four games of this year, but it hasn’t been productive like the Jets were expecting. It’s not like the team was probably planning to keep him, as the almost winless Jets would rather free up salary cap and build draft capital to help quarterback Justin Fields. The future might look gloomy for Williams, but these three teams could easily acquire the linebacker in free agency once he’s available in March.<\/p>\n

1. Dallas Cowboys<\/h3>\n

After the latest moves from the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones is not afraid to pull the trigger to improve the team. While the team is 3-5-1, they have a bright future on defense as long as they continue to salvage the unit behind new trade acquisitions, Logan Wilson<\/a> and Quinnen Williams. Quincy would be a logical fit for Dallas as they have one of the worst linebacker groups in the league, with Jack Sanborn on IR, and Shemar James is only excellent in situational moments.<\/p>\n

One has to wait and see what the return will look like for DeMarvion Overshown<\/a>, though. Despite that, the Cowboys should still add Quincy to this roster if Wilson can’t live up to the moment once the season ends.<\/p>\n

2. Washington Commanders<\/h3>\n

With the season looking to be over for the Commanders, the team will need to rebuild its linebacker unit behind Frankie Luvu. Bobby Wagner and Von Miller<\/a> are slated to become free agents after the 2025 season unless they retire, which is likely the case. Fortunately, Jayden Daniels’ injury<\/a> doesn’t look to be too serious, but for them to get several opportunities on offense, the defense must be on point, and they should target Quincy to give this unit a fresh start.<\/p>\n

3. Baltimore Ravens<\/h3>\n

While the Baltimore Ravens had one of the worst pass defenses this season, they finally woke up with Lamar Jackson back in the lineup on offense. However, the linebacker core group will look completely different next year. After trading away Odafe Oweh to the Chargers and acquiring Dre’Mont Jones, time is likely ticking for veteran Kyle Van Noy. Noy and David Ojabo<\/a> are expected to hit the market, and that leaves a void as far as depth. Quincy might need to work his way back, but a situational backup role might suit him better to share along the snaps with Teddye Buchanan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
