After their latest loss to the Buffalo Bills and now 5-4, it shouldn’t be a surprise if the Kansas City Chiefs make some moves in the trade market, and that could include wide receiver Tyquan Thornton. According to Bleacher Report<\/a>, the source believes the Chiefs may trade Thornton in exchange for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick<\/a>. Kansas City has been having an abysmal season when it comes to their pass secondary ever since they lost Justin Reid to the New Orleans Saints in free agency this past offseason. Bryan Cook has yet to make any promising strides while allowing a passing rating of 128.1, which is a lackluster performance for a team’s secondary that was once good.<\/p>\n

However, if the Chiefs want to defeat other AFC teams like the Broncos, Chargers, Ravens and Bills, they must make a few trades, and it might have to start on defense. While Fitzpatrick won’t single-handedly carry the Chiefs into playoff contention, he has experience and drive like he did with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but that went out the window once he came back to Miami. Either way, Thornton should be a solid name in trade rumors before the deadline, as Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy will receive a bigger role as Rice is slowly returning to the lineup.<\/p>\n

It would prepare the Dolphins to move into a new regime without Tyreek Hill, who is expected to be cut once the year is over. However, don’t be surprised if these three teams call up the Chiefs regarding Thornton.<\/p>\n

1. Washington Commanders<\/h3>\n

At 3-6, and the Washington Commanders are planning to be without starting quarterback Jayden Daniels<\/a>, the 2025 season is likely over for them. However, it doesn’t mean the team can entirely tank, and they should be looking for ways to improve the passing attack, so Daniels is ready for a new supporting case once he returns in 2026. No one knows what the future holds for Deebo Samuel<\/a>, but it would not be surprising if they let him walk in free agency.<\/p>\n

Treylon Burks and a returning Luke McCaffrey next season aren’t enough to compensate this receiving unit behind Terry McLaurin, who has also dealt with injuries. A trade for Thornton gives Washington a clean slate and possibly a long-term weapon for Daniels.<\/p>\n

2. San Francisco 49ers<\/h3>\n

While the 49ers prefer to trade for a defensive talent after losing Nick Bosa and rookie Mykel Williams, it shouldn’t be a surprise if they explore the WR market. They already traded for Kendrick Bourne<\/a> and Skyy Moore, but given that Brandon Aiyuk’s future is in doubt, they should trade for another safe, low-stakes receiver. Jauan Jennings is another latest 49ers wideout that could be on the move despite the new temporary contract. Thornton won’t light up the field, but his elusivity and hands could be useful alongside Demarcus Robinson, Bourne and Moore and a returning Rickey Pearsall.<\/p>\n

3. Carolina Panthers<\/h3>\n

In a desperate move, it would not be too shocking if the Chiefs start searching for another safety anywhere they can. After signing Tre’Von Moehrig to a huge deal, the days could be numbered for Nick Scott either way.
