While there was a lot of hype for Jayden Daniels’ return to the Washington Commanders, he left midway through the fourth quarter with a disastrous arm injury. As of this posting, there hasn’t been an update on how much time he will miss, but the injury looks too serious<\/a>, and it might be time for the Commanders to tank their season. While Washington was hopeful to get back in the thick of the NFC East race, it’s fair to say that they should become sellers before the trade deadline tomorrow. With that, this means the team could play around with tons of veteran players on their roster that are on expiring contracts, and that could signal that tight end Zach Ertz<\/a> might be on the move.<\/p>\n

Originally selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, the former Stanford product became one of Daniels’ favorite offensive weapons in the aerial attack. While he isn’t the most flashy player in the league anymore, he still has a lot of experience and juice left to help a potential contender. Ertz came off a 2024 campaign, recording 66 receptions for 654 receiving yards and seven touchdowns during the rookie season of Daniels. These are legit numbers that prove that he still has about a solid 2-3 years before he decides to hang up his cleats.<\/p>\n

It’ll be interesting to see who the Commanders will trade away before Tuesday, but Ertz is a name to watch on your radar, as it won’t be a surprise if he ends up in a new uniform this week.<\/p>\n

1. Green Bay Packers<\/h3>\n

In a heartbreaker, the Green Bay Packers lost to the Panthers in a nail-biter, but the real nail came from losing tight end Tucker Kraft. The assumption is that Kraft tore his ACL<\/a>, barring any miracle, that he could return this season. However, that just won’t happen for the Packers, and while the team has a ton of weapons and depth, they need a replacement to fill the void. Ertz probably won’t be a dash in a pan, but he could be a reliable veteran to help Luke Musgrave<\/a> and John FitzPatrick in situational moments.<\/p>\n

2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/h3>\n

At the top of the NFC South, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been on fire all season long, but they’re coming off a huge loss last week to the Lions. They haven’t talked about a new contract with starting tight end Cade Otton<\/a>, so this means that they could leave the door open for a new weapon. While Ertz isn’t a long-term tight end anymore, his veteran experience could be useful for this offense led by Baker Mayfield, who lacks that experience in the postseason.<\/p>\n

3. Philadelphia Eagles, “A Long Shot”<\/h3>\n

The Washington Commanders would want to avoid a situation in strengthening the Eagles, but they might not have a choice here. At the bottom of the NFC with the Giants, the Commanders might have to do Ertz a favor and let him return to the place where he started his career. After bringing Brandon Graham<\/a> out of retirement and trading for two starting cornerbacks, no one should put it past the Eagles to get Ertz.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
