QB JJ McCarthy is back after a two-month absence. I’m not expecting the Vikings to run the football against a solid Lions run defense. Pass protection will be key, and the Vikings offensive line is relatively healthy. If McCarthy can get time, he can expose a mediocre Lions’ pass defense. Receivers Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison could go off in this game. Plus, McCarthy has some rushing abilities, so at his price, he can become a sleeper play this week. There are too many good tight ends on the slate to play T.J. Hockenson, but he’s always a threat to score.

The Lions are coming off their bye week, and they should be ready to put up some points against a bad Vikings defense. I think the star is going to be RB Jahmyr Gibbs. The Vikings have struggled against him since he’s been in the league. I’m expecting 120 all-purpose yards and at least one touchdown. RB David Montgomery could have a solid game, but I prefer Gibbs. The passing game could also show out, especially if the Vikings were to put up a fight. QB Jared Goff could light the Vikings up for 300 yards, with many of those yards going to receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and tight end Sam LaPorta. WR Jameson Williams can have a couple of big plays, but I think I like the other weapons better. Don’t be surprised if a total game stack wins the cash because I can see both teams putting up a bunch of points.

Carolina Panthers at Green Bay Packers 1:00 p.m. EST

Photo Credit: Tork Mason/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin

This isn’t a great matchup for the Panthers offense. They love to run the football, but they are facing a Packers defense that only allows 3.7 yards per carry. The passing game will have to come alive, and that’s a challenging task because I think they will be playing from behind and facing a big Packers pass rush. QB Bryce Young is back, and he can escape some of that pressure and create plays downfield. I expect him to throw 40 plus times in this game, so maybe one of those receivers could show out. I expect WR Tetairoa McMillan to get most of the coverage, so receivers Jalen Coker or Xavier Leggett could be a dart throw. I prefer Coker, and he may make a milli-maker lineup or two.

The Packers have two players you can trust and a bunch of players that could show out. Running back Josh Jacobs and tight end Tucker Kraft have been outstanding. In fact, I think Jacobs is a lock to score at home. Can he get enough yardage to get into the winning lineups? Last week, we saw James Cook run over the Panthers run defense, but they haven’t played that badly all year. Which defense are we going to see? I see Jacobs getting 20 to 30 fantasy points, so he is in play. Kraft may go a bit on their own because there are a lot of good tight ends on the slate, but as we have seen, he is a slate-breaking type of player. As for the receivers, it’s a mess right now. They’re nice players, but no superstar stands out. Don’t forget that WR Christian Watson is back and making contributions, which makes picking the right receiver impossible. QB Jordan Love is solid but not playable on this slate when there are so many quality QB options.

Chicago Bears at Cincinnati Bengals 1:00 p.m. EST

I don’t know what happened to the Bears last week, but most of their players seem to be limited in practice this week. QB Caleb Williams isn’t on the report, and he should be a great play. WR Rome Odunze is also limited, but I think he plays and can score 20-plus points. WR Luther Burden is a dart throw play, as he could get some more volume and score on a long touchdown. TE Cole Kmet is limited in practice, but I bet he plays, which makes it challenging to play him or TE Colston Loveland. However, the most significant development is that RB D’Andre Swift is not practicing right now, and he’s trending in the wrong direction. I love him as a play, but RB Kyle Monangai would become a lock button play at his price if he is not out there. The Bengals give up a ton of yards to the running back, and he should score 20 points.

The Bengals have been excellent for fantasy football with QB Joe Flacco. He has gotten the ball to WR Ja’Marr Chase, whom he has targeted 54 times in the last three games. I don’t see that ending here, and Chase will be in many of my lineups. RB Chase Brown is coming off a solid performance in which he scored two touchdowns. I am a little worried that RB Samaje Perine received a bit of volume last week. Still, Brown is a solid play and should score at home. WR Tee Higgins only had one catch for a long touchdown last week, and they need to get him more involved. He is a sneaky option because there will be a game in which he gets more volume and scores 20 points. This is another game where a complete game stack could be in order.

Atlanta Falcons at New England Patriots 1:00 p.m. EST

The Falcons put up a dud last week, which was surprising even though WR Drake London and QB Michael Penix were out. Both should be back this week, but this is a tough matchup against a fairly good Patriots defense. RB Bijan Robinson was the most disappointing player on the slate last week. I am not playing him this week against the Patriots, but the disclaimer is that Robinson can score 30 points no matter the matchup. The best option is tight end Kyle Pitts, who has become the tight end we expected from college. He is in a great matchup, and don’t be surprised if he scores 15 plus points.

QB Drake Maye has been one of the most consistent fantasy quarterbacks this season, and it should continue here. I will play him alone because he spreads the ball out, making it difficult for his weapons to score enough points to win a tournament. Receivers Kayshon Boutte and Stefon Diggs are solid, but 15 to 20 fantasy points isn’t enough. TE Hunter Henry should be avoided against the Falcons’ defense, which is the best vs. tight ends. I am avoiding the running game, but it was nice to see rookie RB TreVeyon Henderson get more volume last week.RB Rhamondre Stevenson missed practice on Thursday, so he may miss the game. Henderson would be a solid play at $4,900. Hopefully, we get a clear answer well before inactives are announced on Sunday.

For more help with your fantasy football lineups, check out our Week 9 Buy/Sell/Hold!

Denver Broncos at Houston Texans 1:00 p.m. EST

Photo Credit: INDIANAPOLIS STAR-USA TODAY Network via Imagn Images

I will pass on this game because both defenses are good enough to prevent a player from having a huge game. Unfortunately, we don’t know who the quarterback will be. I think it will be Mac Jones, but there are rumors that Brock Purdy could start. Either way, RB Christian McCaffrey is in a great spot here and will be in many of my lineups. He should get back to scoring 20-plus fantasy points. The receiving weapons are a little bit more challenging. One of them will stand out and be in a great spot here. I have a hunch that WR Jauan Jennings will have a solid game. He is cheap and will have low ownership. TE George Kittle could also have a solid day and is priced right. WR Kendrick Bourne could be in play, but his price is still a bit high considering he hasn’t done much in his last two games. The game total is 48.5, so the Niners are expected to score points.

The Giants are also expected to score points, which makes QB Jaxon Dart a premier play at his price. The loss of RB Cam Skattebo should mean more rushing yardage and touchdowns from Dart. Many might want to run out and play RB Tyrone Tracy, but I think RB Devin Singletary will also get some volume. I don’t believe either back can get enough fantasy points to win a tournament. I am very interested in WR Wan’Dale Robinson because he should get a ton of volume and is a good bet to score. WR Darius Slayton is also in a good spot, and he is going to be lower owned and could be a solid dart throw. I think TE Daniel Bellinger will be out, making TE Theo Johnson more interesting. The 49ers show that they rank well against tight ends, but remember, LB Fred Warner is out, which makes them more vulnerable. It is yet another game that we could think about using a total game stack.

Indianapolis Colts at Pittsburgh Steelers 1:00 p.m. EST

Another huge game by RB Jonathan Taylor and another blowout win for the Colts last week. He has priced up, and I think we can find better backs on the slate, so I’m not going to have much exposure to Taylor, realizing that could cost me. It’s interesting to see what the Colts’ passing offense could be like if they had to play an entire football game. They’ve had so many blowouts that we haven’t seen their full effect. I think QB Daniel Jones is in play, along with tight end Tyler Warren, who should have a huge game, considering TE Tucker Kraft exploded against the Steelers last week. Receivers Josh Downs and Michael Pittman could both be good options. It isn’t easy to pick, but Pittman always has the edge.

For the Steelers, it’s all about three players, possibly four. I could see QB Aaron Rodgers throwing for 300 yards as the Colts are susceptible to the pass. WR DK Metcalf is cheap and is going to make the majority of my lineups. I think he has 100 yards and a touchdown. RB Jaylen Warren is also in play, as I think he’ll get some short passes and 20 touches because you have to keep the ball away from the Colts. If TE Pat Freiermuth is out, then TE Jonnu Smith becomes a solid play because the Colts allow many yards underneath to tight ends.

Los Angeles Chargers at Tennessee Titans 1:00 p.m. EST

The Chargers offense is firing on all cylinders, with contributions from just about everybody. They have another great matchup against a bad Titans defense, but picking who will shine can be difficult. QB Justin Herbert should be steady, but will he need to pass much in the second half? He has a great collection of receiving weapons, and again, I like WR Ladd McConkey the most. I think Keenan Allen is a solid play, and I’m going to pass on Quintin Johnston as he’s been cold. TE Oronde Gadsden has been on fire, but he is priced up, and with the tight ends on this slate, I’m going to pass. RB Kimani Vidal is also in a great spot, but I think his ownership will be a bit high. He is priced up for his ability, and even though I think he can score 20 points, I don’t think he can get much above that to take down a tournament. In short, they have several solid plays, but I think only Herbert can have an explosive game that takes down a tournament.

I am going to pass on the Titans in this one. I do like RB Tyjae Spears and WR Chimere Dike, but can they realistically win a tournament? They would have to put up some big numbers to get the job done, and I don’t think they will.

New Orleans Saints at Los Angeles Rams 4:05 p.m. EST

There is very little interest in the Saints here. As usual, wide receiver Puka Nacua is the gem. He has been limited in practice, but I think he’ll show up and have several catches and a touchdown. WR Davante Adams could have a solid game, but I believe there are better receivers on the slate. RB Kyren Williams is in a good spot as the Rams love to run the ball when playing with the lead. He should easily have over 100 all-purpose yards and be a lock for a touchdown.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Las Vegas Raiders 4:05 p.m. EST

I don’t know what to think about the Jaguars coming off their bye. They are one of those teams that can put up big numbers, but are difficult to trust. QB Trevor Lawrence can look amazing one play and then look like he just learned how to play football the next. WR Brian Thomas Jr. has been limited in practice but should be primed to have a big game. WR Travis Hunter has been limited in practice, but there are talks that they want to get him more involved. He can easily 5X his price if he gets a couple of long plays and a touchdown. RB Travis Etienne is in a good spot, and nobody talks about him. I know he hasn’t had very many good games lately, but he is an explosive player, and I could see him getting 20 plus points. In all, the Jaguars look good on paper but difficult to trust on the field.

The Raiders are also coming off their bye, and I would expect some improvement. It can’t get much worse than what it’s been, as they have been awful. They do get TE Brock Bowers back, which should help immensely. He is cheaply priced, and the platforms are begging you to play him. RB Ashton Jeanty is a bit overpriced on this slate. He has a lot of talent, but at his price point, it’s just going to be too much for me. There is some interest in the receivers because the Jaguars will give up passing yardage. I think receivers Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker could be solid plays if QB Geno Smith used the bye week to get right.

Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills 4:25 p.m. EST

This game scares me because I don’t want to play it. Unfortunately, it has the highest game total on the slate, at 54. The reason why I don’t want to play it is that quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen are the two highest-priced quarterbacks on the slate. I want to pay down at quarterback and pair them with their own receiving weapons, but I do realize that both of these players have 30-plus-point upside and can dominate the slate.

My main interests in this game are Kansas City WR Rashee Rice and Buffalo TE Dalton Kincaid. Outside of them, I think the ball will be spread around a bit, but I don’t see a dominant player in winning lineups. That thought process does not make me feel comfortable. I think if you want to play the quarterbacks and the receiving options, you can pair them with players from the Raiders, the Giants, and the 49ers because that’s the only way you can get them to fit in. Also, they become more attractive if RB Kyle Monangai is announced as the Bears starter. His price point will allow you to easily Chief and Bills stacks that have Mahomes and Allen.

For more great fantasy football analysis, check out DrRoto.com!

We are already in Week 9, and the season is flying by as usual.
