It’s only one win for the Jets as the organization will need to start from scratch again, as Justin Fields has failed to be coached in the right direction to success for this roster. It wasn’t expected for the team to go far this season, but the abysmal year should motivate them to be sellers and trade Johnson, as he’s still an adequate defensive star when healthy. New York is likely to ask for a second-round pick at least, since they’re more willing to move on from Johnson than they are with Will McDonald.

Originally selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Florida State product is surprisingly willing to stay with the Jets. However, the chances of that are slim, as the Jets could get a lot of draft capital here, and as long as they could negotiate at the right offer, they could get a lot of compensation for the linebacker. Johnson has been a locker room leader for the Jets and has changed this defense since his return to the team this season, but it doesn’t solidify his status as a member of New York. These three possible contenders could benefit from his presence, and it shouldn’t be a surprise if they ring the phone.

Breaking: Jets Reveals Asking Price for Jermaine Johnson; 3 Destinations, Ranked

Sep 21, 2025; Chicago, Illinois, USA; Dallas Cowboys defensive back Reddy Steward (27) grabs Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze (15) jersey during the second half at Soldier Field. Dallas Cowboys

While Jerry Jones may have said that it might take more than one player to change around the defense, this isn’t necessarily true. After trading for George Pickens this past offseason, the Dallas Cowboys’ offense has changed in a good way, and they’ve found profound success along the way. That alone is due to the momentum behind it. It’s hard to see the Cowboys move past the trade deadline without at least making a defense move, especially since they traded away a generational pass-rusher, Micah Parsons, in August.

Either way, the Cowboys’ defense has been one of the worst. Johnson isn’t god, but since the Jets saw a difference in their defense in his return, just imagine what he could provide in Dallas. Even though DeMarvion Overshown is returning soon, they should still trade for Johnson if they want to see a change midseason.

Main Photo: Kim Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images

2. Washington Commanders

Despite the team losing Jayden Daniels for a few games this season, the Washington Commanders are still easily in the NFC East if they can stay healthy. While Jacob Martin made noticeable strides in the matchup against the Chiefs, it wasn’t enough to compensate for how the rest of the defense played. The team already lost defensive end Dorance Armstrong and running back Austin Ekeler for the rest of the year; they must at least make a move to fill the hole on either side. Johnson joining Bobby Wagner and Von Miller in the same unit might wake this defense up if they plan to lose Daniels for more games moving forward.

Sep 28, 2025; Kansas City, Missouri, USA; Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (8) runs the ball as Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton (32) chases during the game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
