With the NFL trade deadline rapidly approaching, the Kansas City Chiefs could soon receive several calls, and this could include one regarding cornerback Joshua Williams. The expectation is that the Chiefs might be willing to trade Williams since he hasn’t done much in this heavy secondary room. It wouldn’t be the first time that the Chiefs decide to trade a cornerback, as they did in L’Jarius Sneed a few offseasons ago. However, this isn’t a trade that the Chiefs wouldn’t mind, as there isn’t any chance that Williams will get a starting role, as Trent McDuffie<\/a> is shining, and they signed Kristian Fulton for depth this past offseason.<\/p>\n

Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Williams isn’t the most impressive cornerback, but he is looking for an opportunity. One source thinks that the Cowboys could make that move<\/a> and give Williams a chance to solidify a role in their secondary unit. The future for starter Trevon Diggs looks bleak, and the Cowboys are expected to part ways with Diggs after the 2025 season, which would free up $50 million in cap space. While Williams fits into what the Cowboys are looking for, it shouldn’t be a surprise if these three teams contact the cornerback and outbid Dallas.<\/p>\n

1. New Orleans Saints<\/h3>\n

The New Orleans Saints aren’t postseason contenders anytime soon, but it shouldn’t stop them from making defensive moves. After trading for DeVaughn Vele<\/a> and claiming Trey Palmer off waivers, the Saints should treat the defense like they’ve been doing for its offense, which needs a huge boost in the secondary. Alontae Taylor<\/a> and Kool-Aid McKinstry are the anchors of their pass secondary, but they lack depth, and someone like Williams could be a solid fit on this team.<\/p>\n

It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Saints get Williams to reunite with safety Justin Reid to slowly build an efficient and championship secondary, which could help boost their chances for a huge run next year, no matter who is the quarterback leading the pack.<\/p>\n

2. Carolina Panthers<\/h3>\n

Just like the New Orleans Saints, the Panthers are nowhere near being a playoff team for the next few years. However, they did show some type of life after picking up an upset win over Dallas, but they lost Bryce Young for a few weeks due to an injury. If he remained healthy, then the Panthers may have had a shot at some point later in the season if they stood consistent. Despite re-signing Jaycee Horn<\/a> and Michael Jackson, Williams would be a strong depth guy who could be ready for the starting reps in situational moments.<\/p>\n

3. New England Patriots<\/h3>\n

Here’s a team that would benefit from a Williams trade. The New England Patriots are surprising plenty of teams across the AFC, and it’s time for them to be aggressive as buyers rather than sellers. Even though they traded two former starters, Kyle Dugger and Keion White<\/a>, they could be preparing for a massive splash.
