Coming off a disastrous loss against the Denver Broncos last week, the Dallas Cowboys need to make some serious trades if they desire to be a postseason contender this year. The expectation is that Dallas will be “aggressive” before the trade deadline, but they haven’t had any luck getting any acquisitions as far as the Maxx Crosby and Trey Hendrickson sweepstakes.<\/a> The Cowboys are open for business, and it shouldn’t be surprising if they make a massive addition, especially if they continue to falter against the Arizona Cardinals when quarterback Kyler Murray returns.<\/p>\n

As of this posting, they’re looking for defensive help. Dallas has held their own ground on offense, but hasn’t found any life defensively, which is a unit they must improve if they have Super Bowl aspirations. Quarterback Dak Prescott<\/a> is playing his best football this year, and that is something the Cowboys can’t afford to waste. With starting cornerback Trevon Diggs missing playing time and the Dallas needing secondary help, here are five trades that could immediately bring some spark to the defense and some on offense.<\/p>\n

5 Trades the Cowboys Could Make<\/h2>\n

1. Jaelan Phillips<\/h3>\n

After firing GM Chris Grier<\/a>, the expectation is that the Miami Dolphins will soon fire-sale plenty of talent. It’s safe to assume that they could trade at least two or three players this year before the trade deadline. Jaelan Phillips<\/a> is no superstar, but he has been a name brought up linked to the Dallas Cowboys. The former first-round pick would immediately bring some type of life to the edge rushing unit, which is a side that the Cowboys have been struggling on.<\/p>\n

While Phillips is an impending free agent next offseason, this would give Dallas a major consideration to re-sign him, depending on how his production is. The top pass-rushers for the Cowboys unit lean on rookie Donovan Ezeiruaku, Dante Fowler and James Houston, while free agent signee Jack Sanborn and Damone Clark have been struggling to make any impact.<\/p>\n

2. DeMario Davis<\/h3>\n

The New Orleans Saints aren’t contenders this year, as expected, after announcing Tyler Shough is the starter for the rest of the season.<\/a> This means the Saints should be selling some of their veteran players to recoup some type of draft capital. Being that head coach Kellen Moore used to be in Dallas, it shouldn’t be hard to pull off this trade.<\/p>\n

DeMario Davis<\/a> is trending down in his career at age 36, but his veteran presence would be beneficial for this depleted linebaker unit.<\/p>\n

3. Nick Herbig<\/h3>\n

Another edge rusher for the Dallas Cowboys is possible here. While the Pittsburgh Steelers are a winning roster, they haven’t used Nick Herbig<\/a> as much. With him entering the final year of his rookie contract next year and leading the team in sacks, he could be an intriguing name to watch for Dallas. The Cowboys might have to bite on this if they truly want to rebuild their defensive pass rush, which has struggled to see much this season from names like Kenneth Murray Jr. and Jack Sanborn.<\/p>\n

4. Sauce Gardner<\/h3>\n

As much as the Dallas Cowboys are looking for defensive help on the line, they also need to think about their secondary unit. With Trevon Diggs continuing to miss games, the expectation is that the Cowboys will cut him after the 2025 campaign. After drafting Shavon Revel Jr. and attempting to shore up the secondary room by trading for Kaiir Elam, there is room for improvement. While they can sign Stephon Gilmore to a one-year contract, the biggest splash here would be Sauce Gardner<\/a>, who could be the long-term option for Dallas.<\/p>\n

5. Isiah Pacheco, All In or Nothing<\/h3>\n

If the Dallas Cowboys somehow can’t pull off a defensive trade before the deadline, it shouldn’t be surprising if they start looking for offensive help on the ground. After losing Miles Sanders for the rest of the year, they have a glaring hole they need to fill. While Javonte Williams has looked exceptional this season, the same can’t be said about the disappointing 2025 draft pick Jaydon Blue. This is a long shot, but Isiah Pacheco joining the Cowboys in a 1-2 punch with Williams should better position Dallas in the long run.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
