Selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the running back has been one of the few bright spots on the New York Jets offense and is entering the final year of his contract. With running backs dropping like flies throughout the league and no other high-end starters on the trade block, Hall is the crown jewel for any contender looking to upgrade their rushing attack.

Top 5 Breece Hall Trade Destinations, Ranked

The New York Jets do not want to trade Breece Hall, but they may not have a choice. At 1-7, their season is effectively over, and they could lose the running back to free agency. Rather than watch him walk for nothing, New York should sell him to a contender if it receives a good enough offer.

5. Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers entered the season with a formidable running back duo in veteran Najee Harris and first-round pick Omarion Hampton. However, both players are currently on the injured reserve, forcing the team to entrust their rushing attack to Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins. While Hampton will return to the field, Harris is done for the season, and a Breece Hall trade could upgrade this backfield.

The only reason the Chargers aren’t higher on this list is that Vidal has done a remarkable job while filling in for Hampton. So far on the season, the running back has recorded 279 rushing yards and one touchdown on 54 carries, good for 5.2 yards per attempt. He’s more than capable of being the RB2 when Hampton returns, so perhaps the Chargers should target a cheaper running back like Jerome Ford to be their short-term RB2 and long-term RB3.

Oct 5, 2025; Inglewood, California, USA; Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton (8) runs against Washington Commanders nose tackle Daron Payne (94) in the first half at SoFi Stadium. Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders traded Brian Robinson before the season because they believed they had someone special in seventh-round pick Jacory Croskey-Merritt. While the rookie running back has performed remarkably well considering his draft capital, he hasn’t looked the same in recent weeks. The running back only has three games with more than 50 yards and hasn’t maintained his previous efficiency with increased work. Additionally, he doesn’t bring much to the passing game.

A Breece Hall trade would give the Commanders one of the league’s better backfield duos, but would Washington pull the trigger? Hall probably won’t come cheap, and the Commanders are currently 3-5 with a negative point differential. Is it worth it for this team to give up a notable draft pick for a luxury position like running back when they might not even make the playoffs?

Oct 19, 2025; Arlington, Texas, USA; Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels (5) celebrates after scoring a touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys during the second quarter of the game at AT&T Stadium. Kansas City Chiefs

After a slow start to the season, the Kansas City Chiefs are back to looking like their unstoppable selves. While the passing game remains one of the best in the league, the rushing attack could use some work. Veteran Isiah Pacheco wasn’t all that effective when healthy, and the former seventh-round pick is currently battling injuries. This leaves the well past his prime Kareem Hunt and untested rookie Brashard Smith leading the backfield, and that’s simply not a good enough duo for a championship contender.

A Breece Hall trade would give Andy Reid his best running back since prime Kareem Hunt. Reid’s offense used to be synonymous with a workhorse three-down back, but he hasn’t had anyone capable of filling that role in half a decade. Hall is talented enough to handle that workload and could bring a long-absent part of this offense back to the field.

Sep 28, 2025; Kansas City, Missouri, USA; Patrick Mahomes #15 talks with Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid during the second half against the Baltimore Ravens at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jay Biggerstaff-Imagn Images

2. New England Patriots

The New England Patriots control the AFC East, and their breakthrough season has come in spite of their running backs. Rhamondre Stevenson is down with a toe injury and wasn’t all that reliable when on the field, TreVeyon Henderson looks lost more often than not, and Terrell Jennings is a former undrafted free agent who has yet to see more than a handful of carries outside of garbage time. While running back isn’t the most important position, you need more talent than this to win football games in January.

Breece Hall would be the perfect trade target, as he’d turn a major weakness into a considerable strength. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels excels at scheming up targets for running backs, and Hall’s ability in the open field should give MVP candidate Drake Maye yet another reliable weapon. The only question is whether the Jets would trade their best player to their most hated division rival.

Oct 12, 2025; New Orleans, Louisiana, USA; New England Patriots running back Treveyon Henderson (32) runs for a gain past New Orleans Saints safety Jonas Sanker (33) and cornerback Quincy Riley (29) during the first quarter at Caesars Superdome. Mandatory Credit: Matthew Hinton-Imagn Images

1. Chicago Bears

Head coach Ben Johnson wants to run the football and narrowly missed adding multiple high-level running backs throughout the offseason. While he made do with D’Andre Swift early in the season, the running back will miss Week 9 with a groin injury. This leaves seventh-round rookie Kyle Monangai atop the depth chart, which isn’t a good thing for Johnson’s Bears.

While second-year quarterback Caleb Williams will ultimately determine this team’s ceiling, a Breece Hall trade could set a much-needed floor. Chicago’s offensive line is better than ever, and Hall should find success behind this talented unit. Additionally, Hall’s presence as a pass-catcher should make life easier for Williams, as the former first-overall pick is still struggling to make his reads on time.

Sep 14, 2025; Detroit, Michigan, USA; Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams (18) passes the ball against the Detroit Lions during the first quarter of the game at Ford Field.
