This isn’t what you’d normally expect from a 6-2 team, but the moves make sense in context. Dugger and White had good moments in their careers under previous regimes, but simply weren’t a fit for head coach Mike Vrabel.

5 More Trades the Patriots Could Make Before the Deadline

The trade deadline in November 4th, and the Patriots have likely sold every player they intend to sell. Now, it’s time to buy. Second-year quarterback and MVP candidate Drake Maye has this team in position to win the AFC East, but they could use a few more players to truly elevate themselves to Super Bowl champions. Over the next few days, look for the Patriots to try and trade for the following five players.

Main Photo: Andrew Nelles – Imagn Images

5. Arden Key

The Tennessee Titans have already traded two of their best cornerbacks, and it’s safe to assume the 1-7 squad will continue to sell as they chase the first-overall pick for the second time in as many years. The Patriots have a solid defense, but they’ve only faced a powerful offense on one occasion. While they have aneasy regular season schedule, they must add talent for the playoffs.

Arden Key is no superstar, but the Titans edge defender would be a welcome addition to this defensive line. While the defensive tackle duo of Milton Williams and Christian Barmore is unmatched, the pass rush could use some help. Harold Landry has done well in his new home, but K’Lavon Chaisson is better as a role player. Don’t be surprised if New England trades for a role player like Arden Key and becomes a key piece for the Patriots down the stretch.

Main Photo: Andrew Nelles / The Tennessean-USA TODAY NETWORK

4. Breece Hall

Running back is one of the few glaring weaknesses on the New England Patriots roster. While veteran Rhamondre Stevenson hasn’t fumbled in a few weeks, he lacks the burst to outrun cornerbacks and safeties. Rookie TreVeyon Henderson, meanwhile, finally showed some signs of life against the Cleveland Browns but fumbled late in the contest. The Patriots need someone more reliable, and Breece Hall is the perfect trade candidate.

Selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Hall has been one of the most consistent pieces of the offense since entering the league. While his injury history is a bit of a red flag, he’d easily be the best running back in this backfield. The only question is whether the 1-7 Jets would trade a star player like Hall to their greatest rivals.

Oct 12, 2025; Tottenham, United Kingdom; New York Jets running back Breece Hall (20) runs the ball against the Denver Broncos during an NFL International Series game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Jakobi Meyers

Jakobi Meyers requested a trade from the Raiders just before the start of the regular season, and Vegas could finally grant that request at the trade deadline. The team entered the season with postseason aspirations after bringing in head coach Pete Carroll and trading for quarterback Geno Smith. Unfortunately, these transactions have not resulted in wins, as the team is 2-5 and likely to sell at the deadline.

Jakobi Meyers is the subject of several potential trades, but nothing makes more sense than a reunion with the New England Patriots. While the team has one of the best passing attacks in football, they could use a player like Meyers who can consistently get open early in his routes and keep the chains moving. Combining his abilities as a possession receiver with Kayshon Boutte and Stefon Diggs could give New England one of the most well-rounded aerial attacks in football.

Oct 5, 2025; Indianapolis, Indiana, USA; Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers (16) makes a catch against the Indianapolis Colts during the second half at Lucas Oil Stadium. Jaelan Phillips

Moving back to edge defenders, the Patriots should consider targeting a division rival in Miami’s Jaelan Phillips. Selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Miami product looked like one of the league’s better up-and-coming talents in 2022. While he never quite recaptured that form, he remains a productive starter who could find success in a better scheme. Through eight games, Phillips has recorded two sacks, 21 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and six quarterback hits.

While the raw sack numbers aren’t anything to behold, it’s worth noting that Phillips’s 80.4 PFF pass rush grade is the 13th-best mark in the game. Even if the Patriots only use him as a situational runner, he has more than enough in his tank to justify a trade. Additionally, he’s just 26 years old and the Patriots could extend him if he plays well in a new environment.

Main Photo: David Banks-Imagn Images

1. Rashid Shaheed

If the Patriots make no other trades, they must make this one. Drake Maye is the league’s most efficient deep passer by a wide margin, and he’s done it all without a traditional deep threat. Stefon Diggs and Kayshon Boutte can pressure defenses deep, but neither player possesses the deep speed to consistently break past defenders. Rashid Shaheed has that, and he’d be a perfect for this offense.

Shaheed is entering the final year of his contract, and the cash-strapped New Orleans Saints likely don’t have the financial resources to re-sign the veteran speedster. Seeing as they don’t have a realistic shot at the playoffs, they might as well trade Shaheed for whatever they can get, rather than watch him walk for nothing in free agency. The Patriots, meanwhile, know firsthand that an elite quarterback can carry any team to a deep playoff run, especially if he has the proper supporting cast. Rashid Shaheed and Drake Maye won’t make anyone forget about Tom Brady and Randy Moss, but the duo should make this offense even more dangerous.

Oct 5, 2025; New Orleans, Louisiana, USA; New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed (22) reacts after a play against the New York Giants during the second half at Caesars Superdome.
