A former undrafted free agent, the Weber State product overcame his nonexistent draft capital to establish himself as a solid deep threat and one of the league’s better returners. In seven games this year, Shaheed has recorded 30 receptions for 356 yards and two touchdowns on 45 targets.

REPORT: Saints Open To A Rashid Shaheed Trade; 4 Top Suitors Emerge

While he is a good player, the 1-6 Saints have no realistic shot of making the playoffs and should embrace a rebuild. Seeing as Shaheed is in the final year of his contract, New Orleans should get what they can for him instead of watching him walk for nothing in free agency. The Saints do not have the financial resources to keep him and wide receiver Chris Olave long-term, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter’s report states in no uncertain terms the team would rather keep their first-round pick.

Main Photo: Stephen Lew – Imagn Images

4. Carolina Panthers

After years of living in the NFC South’s basement, the 4-3 Carolina Panthers finally have hope for the future. Bryce Young continues to improve, the offensive line is holding up despite some injuries, and the young wide receivers are playing solid football. While Young will miss Week 8 with an ankle injury, it appears as though he’ll be back on his feet in no time, which means the Panthers should buy at the trade deadline.

This team is not a Rashid Shaheed trade away from winning the Super Bowl, but the four-year veteran could add a much-needed dynamic to this offense. First-round picks Tetairoa McMillan and Xavier Legette are having strong seasons, but neither player is a pure speed threat. Shaheed could add a vertical element to this offense that defenses must respect, which will only open up more space for McMillan, Legette, and second-year veteran Jalen Coker. The only question is whether the Saints would send a player like Shaheed to a division rival.

Oct 5, 2025; Charlotte, North Carolina, USA; Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young (9) passes the ball as Miami Dolphins outside linebacker Bradley Chubb (2) pressures in the first quarter at Bank of America Stadium. Buffalo Bills

The AFC East is no longer a cakewalk, as Drake Maye and the New England Patriots currently sit atop the Bills in the race for the division. Josh Allen is a fantastic player, but he’ll need more help to overtake Maye and his MVP-caliber play. Buffalo’s wide receiver room is currently comprised of several adequate role players, but they don’t have a true deep threat.

A Rashid Shaheed trade could fix this. Khalil Shakir is a great possession receiver, and second-round pick Keon Coleman knows how to use his body to win on the outside, but this team needs a pure home run hitter. Josh Allen has the strongest arm in football, and pairing him with a speed threat like Shaheed could give the Bills the league’s most explosive offense.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers

Aaron Rodgers may not be an MVP-caliber quarterback anymore, but he’s still a solid starter and can bring the right team on a deep playoff run. The only question is whether the Steelers have enough offensive firepower to take down the elite teams in the AFC. D.K. Metcalf is a great weapon, but no other wide receivers have stepped up thus far.

The Steelers went all-in on the 2025 season, and a Rashid Shaheed trade would only further push their chips to the center of the table. Rodgers isn’t getting any younger, and Mike Tomlin desperately wants to win a playoff game for the first time in nearly a decade. Shaheed could help accomplish this goal, and having someone like him could help bring back Rodgers’ once-elite deep ball.

Sep 28, 2025; Dublin, Ireland; Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) and defensive tackle Cameron Heyward (97) leave the field after an NFL International Series game against the Minnesota Vikings at Croke Park. New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have the biggest competitive advantage in football: a franchise quarterback on a rookie contract. Drake Maye is playing at an absurd level and is piloting one of the game’s top offenses despite not having much talent at wide receiver. Stefon Diggs proved he still has some juice in his tank, and Kayshon Boutte is proving he belongs in the NFL, but that’s about it right now. Maye already throws one of the prettiest deep balls in the league, so imagine what he could do after a Rashid Shaheed trade.

Maye is putting up ridiculous numbers on his deep passing attempts despite not having a traditional deep threat.
