You guessed it, a ton of headaches. I have taken plenty of issue with the NFL and their schedule makers, but this week takes the cake. Not only did they bunch together six teams when they could have just as easily spread it out to four this week and four last week, when only Buffalo and Baltimore were off, but they chose to give Arizona and Las Vegas off in the same week. Those two teams just happen to employ the top two tight ends drafted across the fantasy football world this preseason in Brock Bowers and Trey McBride, and this Sunday is National Tight End Day! Yes, that’s a real thing, and I guess the NFL thought that meant they should give a one-week vacation to McBride and Bowers. At least we still have the founders of Tight End University (yes, that’s also a real thing) available as well as a few young players who have recently stepped up to become viable fantasy starters. Let’s get into who makes our Top 10 Week 8 Tight End Rankings for National Tight End Day Weekend.

Week 8 Tight End Rankings

1) Tyler Warren vs. Titans

Warren has now scored in four straight games and has cemented himself at the top of this list, regardless of who is on bye and who isn’t. He has been matchup-proof and has remained one of Daniel Jones’ top targets each week, while the other receivers have taken turns having up and down games. His athleticism and hands are elite, and he doesn’t need 10 targets like some of the others at this position to have a big fantasy day. The Colts aren’t going to need to get fancy to beat Tennessee, but Warren should still see plenty of action before the game gets out of hand and it becomes the Jonathan Taylor show once again. I’m sure you don’t need anybody to tell you, leave Warren in your lineup and don’t move him until his bye week.

2) Jake Ferguson vs. Broncos

Photyo Credit: Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

Ferguson actually has been on a tear, scoring 6 touchdowns over the Cowboys‘ last four games and posting 12+ fantasy points in every game since week 2 of this season. The target volume was not affected by the return of CeeDee Lamb, as some of us might have feared, so Fergy is an easy every-week starter for fantasy owners going forward. The Cowboys offense should continue to throw the ball heavily all season as their defense continues to allow a ton of yards and points every week. This is great news for anybody who owns Dak Prescott or any of his pass catchers. The nice thing about this offense is the tight target tree, as Dak is throwing about 70% of his passes to either Lamb, Ferguson, or George Pickens. Look for that to continue this week in Denver. Fire Fergy up and enjoy.

3) Tucker Kraft vs. Steelers

Photo Credit: Wm. Glasheen USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin

Kraft has been a great red zone target all season, as he’s managed to hit pay dirt in four of the Packers‘ first six games. Last week against the Cardinals, he also led the team with 10 targets. While that had more to do with how the Cardinals defend opposing pass catchers, it was still a promising sign for Kraft. This week, they face a Pittsburgh defense that is ranked 30th overall against the pass and 28th in the league against the tight end position. Kraft is not only big, but he’s also athletic and possesses better run-after-the-catch ability than your typical tight end. Get him in your lineup this week, as he’s even worth a flex option if you happen to also roster another tight end on this week’s list.

4) Oronde Gadsden vs. Vikings

As much as I hate the idea of “chasing last week’s points,” this kid is much more than a one-week wonder. The Chargers rookie tight end has been working his way into the offense all season and has seen his snap% rise each week since finally getting on the field in week 3. His snap share has gone from 26% against Denver to well over 70% in each of his last two games. It’s not a coincidence that in those two games, he has 7 catches in each with an eye-popping 164 yards and a score this past week against the Colts. He has the speed and athleticism to take any pass the distance, and that, combined with his size, makes him a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. While we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, he very well may be a waiver wire pick-up that helps you win your league. If you picked him up, play him this week. If you have a number of receivers on bye, he’s also a fine flex option.

5) Mark Andrews vs. Bears

Andrews has been up and down for the last two seasons, and he may have hit the waiver wire in many fantasy leagues when Baltimore hit their bye last week. Many fantasy owners have short memories, and after two subpar weeks with Cooper Rush, followed by the Ravens bye, it may have been time for somebody in your league to drop him for either Harold Fannin or Oronde Gadsden. If he did hit waivers, he’s worth picking up and playing here as he will get Lamar Jackson back this week, and the last full game that we saw them play together resulted in Andrews grabbing 6 passes for 91 yards and 2 scores. Even in the following week against the Chiefs, Andrews was having a solid day before Lamar left with an injury, finishing with 7 catches for 30 yards. I expect the Ravens to score a bunch of points against the Bears, as they need to win this game if they stand any chance of catching the Steelers. The Ravens defense is still far from a shutdown unit, so they will need to outscore teams to win.

6) Dalton Kincaid vs. Panthers

Kincaid was off last week, but he’s still nursing a bit of an oblique injury that has had him limited in practice all week. Before the bye, Kincaid had his best game of the season as he caught all 6 of his targets for 108 yards against the Patriots. The Bills are hungry for a #1 receiver for Josh Allen, and Kincaid very well may fit the bill. This week, the Bills face a Carolina team that is ranked 25th in the league against the tight end position. They have allowed multiple tight ends to score this year, including Darren Waller and Hunter Henry. Kincaid should be in line for 6+ targets with very good touchdown upside this week.

7) George Kittle vs. Texans

Let’s just forget that he gave us a goose egg last week and focus on the fact that he not only played the whole game but also came to the postgame podium and told us all he was sorry and we should blame coach Shanahan. This guy is actually the reason why there is a National Tight End Day, and it’s his duty, neigh, I say, his divine right to score at least one touchdown on this holiest of holy days that he (along with teammates Brent Celek and Jimmy Garoppolo) completely made up back in 2018 during his breakout sophomore season. Kittle doesn’t just play tight end; he’s made being a tight end his whole personality, as he is also the cofounder of Tight End University, which is some other made-up nonsense that got him on Netflix along with Travis Kelce and Greg Olsen. Kittle is a lot of fun to watch, but he’s also still an elite talent. This week will be just his 3rd game this season, but he looks to be completely past the hamstring injury that knocked him out on opening day. In that game against the Seahawks, he was having a great day with 4 grabs and a score at halftime, and I expect him to make a bunch of noise this weekend as he will certainly be mic’d up for the game.

8) Harold Fannin vs. Pats

Last week, it looked like Fannin would be poised for a big week as David Njoku missed the Browns‘ Week 7 matchup against Miami. The game turned into a complete slog in the rain, and the Dolphins didn’t put up much of a fight at all as Cleveland cruised to an easy 31-6 victory. Dillon Gabriel spent most of the game handing the ball off to Quinshon Judkin,s and the Browns defense did the rest of the work. If we squint a bit, we can see some positives here as Fannin was targeted 5 times out of a total of 18 pass attempts by the rookie QB and managed to lead Cleveland’s pass catchers with 4 grabs for 36 yards. While those don’t exactly scream “every week starter”, the ratios are enough for us to feel safe playing him this week against a New England defense ranked 26th in the league in defending the tight end. Even if Njoku plays, we are confident in playing them both. In the event Njoku is traded, Fannin would elevate to an every-week starter so make sure he is rostered in your league.

9) Kyle Pitts vs. Dolphins

Photo Credit: Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Pitts came out hot last week as Penix was looking for him early and often on Sunday night against the 49ers. Pitts finished the game with 10 targets, which he converted into 7 grabs for 62 yards. While he failed to score, the volume has us intrigued, as this was the Falcons’ first game after their bye week. It’s very possible that we can see Penix look for Pitts as his #2 target after Drake London on a weekly basis. For those of us who have been waiting for years for the Kyle Pitts breakout, this may finally be our time. At the very least, we hope this will be our week. The Falcons will score plenty against Miami, and let’s hope Pitts can pile up enough stats before Atlanta takes the air out of the ball and rides Tyler Allgeier in the second half of a potential blowout.

10) Travis Kelce vs. Commanders

The other cofounder of Tight End U took a bit of a step back himself in week 7 as Kelce only garnered 3 targets from Patrick Mahomes in a smash win over the Raiders. The reason for concern here is the return of Rashee Rice, who seems to run the same routes in the same area of the field that Kelce typically occupies, so it’s very possible that this wasn’t a one-week thing. Last year, when Rice was healthy to begin the season, Kelce was only receiving about 4 targets per game. It was in week 4 after Rice was injured that his target share spiked and continued on for the remainder of the season. For now, Kelce is a low-end TE1, but he may help your fantasy team more if you can trade him. If you don’t have a better option, fire him up and hope for a touchdown.

For more help with your Week 8 lineups, check out our Wide Receivers to Start or Bench.

What happens when you combine an already thin position with an NFL schedule that features six teams on bye?
