Welcome to Week 8 of the Fantasy Football Season. This is a week that many fantasy owners have had circled on their calendars since their fantasy drafts, as it’s the first week that we lose six teams to their bye. How many of us went through the first few rounds of our draft and took Jahmyr Gibbs in the first round, followed by Brock Bowers in the second? After we took Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the third, we decided to glance at the bye weeks, and whoops. This week, we will have to fill out our fantasy lineups without the services of the Seahawks<\/a>, Rams<\/a>, Jaguars<\/a>, Raiders<\/a>, Cardinals<\/a>, and Lions<\/a>. That means no Amon Ra, Puka, Davante, JSN, Marvin Harrison, or Brian Thomas, among others. Wide receiver will clearly be hit harder than other positions when you consider we’ve lost players like Malik Nabers, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Tyreek Hill, and then Mike Evans… again. We also may be without Nico Collins and Garrett Wilson, so check their injury updates as they come in through the week. Although the pickings are somewhat thin, let’s take a look at the top 10 wide receiver rankings for Week 8.<\/p>\n

Top 10 Week 8 Wide Receiver Rankings<\/h2>\n

1) Ja’Marr Chase vs. Jets<\/h3>\n

As our wide receiver rankings begin, it will look like business as usual, as the top few spots will be filled by the usual suspects. Chase was drafted as one of the top players overall in most fantasy leagues, and after a bumpy start to the season, he has found his groove as of late. The addition of Joe Flacco has been just what the doctor ordered for Chase and his fantasy owners. After a sluggish start to their Week 6 game, where Flacco looked to Chase three times in the first half against Green Bay<\/a>, the veteran QB came out slinging in the second half, feeding his top target 9 times. He picked right up where he left off the following game, where he locked in on Chase for a mind-boggling 23 targets, resulting in 16 receptions for 161 yards. While I’d love to tell you that could happen again, it’s not likely. We’ll have to settle for around half of that every week, which would still make Ja’Marr the highest targeted player in the league.<\/p>\n

2) Justin Jefferson vs. Chargers<\/h3>\n

The Chargers<\/a> present one of the toughest matchups for wide receivers in the league, but those stats can be tossed out the window when it comes to this guy. Carson Wentz will likely remain under center for at least one more week, and he will continue to get the ball to Jefferson as much as possible. JJ is coming off a bit of a quiet week as Jordan Addison took his turn as the primary pass catcher, so I would expect the pendulum to swing back this week. Even in his “down weeks,” JJ gets 10 targets and over 12 fantasy points. He’s due to find the end zone soon, as he hasn’t scored since week 1. We aren’t worried about that quite yet, but we would like to see that change sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n

3) CeeDee Lamb vs. Broncos<\/h3>\n

Three players in, and this list is looking a lot like the first round of most of our fantasy drafts. Lamb reclaims his place in the top 5 after a multi-week absence due to an ankle injury. CeeDee made his return in grand fashion last week as he grabbed 5 passes for 110 yards and a score on 8 targets. In his absence, George Pickens staked his claim as at least a “co-alpha,” and he will likely remain in the role for the remainder of the season. This shouldn’t hurt Lamb’s numbers, as last week’s game wasn’t competitive in the second half, which likely had more to do with his single-digit target share. It will be interesting to see who Patrick Surtain will cover this Sunday, but either way, Lamb should get plenty of looks from Dak Prescott. This game should be high scoring, and we want to get any piece of it we can into our lineups.<\/p>\n

4) Drake London vs. Dolphins<\/h3>\n

London enters the matchup coming off three straight games with 10 targets or more. He has been Michael Penix’s favorite target ever since the lefty took over as the Falcons<\/a>‘ signal caller at the tail end of the 2024 season. Last week, London wasn’t able to convert his 10 targets into much production as they only yielded 4 grabs for 42 yards, but this week he looks to get back on track against a Miami<\/a> defense that has allowed an average of 29.3 points a game this season, which ranks 29th overall in the league. While the majority of the damage has generally come on the ground, we have seen plenty of receivers put up big numbers with volume against Miami this year. Most notably, Ladd McConkey was able to put up 7 grabs for 100 yards and score just two weeks ago.<\/p>\n

5) Courtland Sutton vs. Cowboys<\/h3>\n

Sutton is coming off a solid game against the Giants<\/a>, as he was able to convert 10 targets into 6 receptions for 87 yards. While he was held scoreless for the third week in a row, I expect him to find paydirt this weekend against a Cowboys<\/a> defense that currently ranks at the bottom of the league against the pass. Any piece of this game you are able to get in your lineup should be starting this week, including Sutton as well as his teammates Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims. Sutton should pace the Broncos<\/a>\u00a0receiving room in what I expect to be a big day from Bo Nix.<\/p>\n

6) Rashee Rice vs. Commanders<\/h3>\n

Rice returned from his 6-game suspension, and the Chiefs<\/a> wasted no time in getting him involved in their offense. Mahomes looked for him on mostly short to intermediate patterns, and it looks like he will slide right in as their top pass catcher going forward. It was slightly concerning that he needed to score two touchdowns to have a big fantasy day, but I expect more yards to come as we get further into the season. This week, the Chiefs will host a Commanders<\/a> defense that ranks 25th in the league against the pass. Get Rice into your lineup as he will be a top 12-15 receiver every week for the rest of the way.<\/p>\n

7) A.J. Brown vs. Giants<\/h3>\n

Two weeks ago, when these same two teams met. Brown was able to put together a solid line with 6 grabs for 80 yards. He followed that up last week with a statistical explosion thanks to two touchdowns on top of 121 yards receiving. The Giants don’t have anybody who can match up with Brown’s physicality, and it’s just a matter of how many targets he will get from Jalen Hurts. He’s been consistently getting about eight looks a week, and anything close to that will allow him to finish as a top 12 option for the week. His upside is WR1 overall in any given week, so get him in your lineup.<\/p>\n

8) Rome Odunze vs. Ravens<\/h3>\n

Odunze has been quiet since the Bears<\/a> returned from their Week 5 bye, putting up consecutive single-digit weeks with almost identical stat lines of 2 grabs for 32 and then 31 yards. The targets have been slightly lower, and that may simply be a result of opponents paying closer attention to the second-year wideout. This week, the Bears will go to Baltimore<\/a> to face a Ravens defense that is ranked 28th against the pass. Although they will be getting back Chide Awuzie, he’s not quite the defender he was 4 years ago. I expect the Ravens to jump ahead and force Caleb Williams into a heavier passing day than we saw last week. Odunze should be the prime beneficiary of the increased volume. If you are hurting for a bye week filler, rookie teammate, Luther Burden also makes a solid boom or bust flyer.<\/p>\n

9) Emeka Egbuka vs. Saints<\/h3>\n

Whew. Most fantasy owners feared the worst as Egbuka left the Buccaneers’<\/a> Week 6 game with a pulled hamstring. He somehow made it through the week with the questionable tag and ultimately played in Tampa Bay’s Monday night loss against the Lions. He wasn’t particularly efficient as he was only able to convert his 12 targets into 4 grabs for 58 yards, but he was able to play the entire game. The questionable tag should follow him through this week, and while it may be prudent to rest the rookie with the bye week looming in Week 9, the Bucs are extremely shorthanded at receiver. Mike Evans is now lost for the majority of this season, and Chris Godwin will also miss yet another game, leaving Egbuka as the top target for Baker Mayfield, along with veteran Sterling Shepherd and fellow rookie Tez Johnson. Keep an eye on his status and be prepared to sub in one of his teammates if you can. The Bucs will look to get back into the win column against the Saints, and as they have all season, they will rely on Baker Mayfield’s arm to get them there.<\/p>\n

10) Nico Collins vs. 49ers<\/h3>\n

Collins left last week’s game with a concussion and is currently in the league’s concussion protocol, something he will need to clear by Friday if we expect him to take the field on Sunday. As of now, he has not taken the practice field, so keep an eye on him as we get closer to kickoff. His teammate, Christian Kirk, is also still not practicing as he works his way back from a hamstring injury. If neither veteran can go, the Texans<\/a> will have to find somebody to catch passes from C.J. Stroud other than Daulton Schultz and Woody Marks. Last week, rookie Jaylin Noel led the wide receivers with 7 targets for 4 catches and 77 yards. It’s possible that it will be Noel again, but if Collins has to miss the game, I would take a flyer on the other rookie, Jayden Higgins. Higgins played a season high 48 snaps last week, and although he failed to reel in any of his 3 targets, he profiles as a bigger body pass catcher that could step up should Collins not go. If Collins plays, he’s in your lineup, as Houston isn’t running the ball on anybody right now with very much success.<\/p>\n
