The New York Jets are in a tailspin, and the NFL’s last winless franchise could consider a Jermaine Johnson trade as they embrace yet another rebuild. A first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft<\/a>, Johnson made the Pro Bowl in 2023 and looked to be one of the league’s more exciting up-and-coming prospects. However, he tore his Achilles early in 2024 and missed most of that season, along with the first three games of 2025. However, he’s back on the field now and could yield a decent return on the trade market.<\/p>\n

Top 4 Jermaine Johnson Trade Destinations, Ranked<\/h2>\n

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Matt Bowen<\/a> note the Jets aren’t desperate to trade Jermaine Johnson, as he’s under contract through the 2026 season and “good edge rushers are hard to find.” With that out of the way, New York stands no chance at the playoffs in 2025, and they could be willing to sell if any of the following four contenders make a big enough offer.<\/p>\n

4. Chicago Bears<\/h3>\n

The Ben Johnson hire<\/a> has been a massive success, as the Chicago Bears currently own a 4-2 record despite playing in arguably the game’s best division. The offense is clicking on all cylinders, as Johnson’s scheme and the abundance of talent on the roster has first-overall pick Caleb Williams playing up to his potential. The defense, however, could use a bit of work.<\/p>\n

This isn’t a bad unit by any stretch of the imagination, and this team, as currently constructed, could win a weaker division. However, Chicago shares a division with the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, and Minnesota Vikings, all teams that have legitimate Super Bowl aspirations. They’ll need someone to get after the quarterback, and a Jermaine Johnson trade could be their best option at this point in the season.<\/p>\n

3. Carolina Panthers<\/h3>\n

Don’t look now, but the Carolina Panthers are in the thick of the playoff race with a 4-3 record. While quarterback Bryce Young<\/a> is battling an ankle injury, veteran Andy Dalton is more than capable of keeping this ship afloat if he needs to start for a few weeks. Nobody thinks this team is a legitimate contender, but they’re building a strong foundation that could include Jermaine Johnson if they trade for him.<\/p>\n

In the short term, Carolina can add Johnson to a promising but overall untested group of edge defenders highlighted by second-round pick Nic Scourton. Johnson can be the proven veteran presence this team desperately needs and, seeing as he’s currently just 26 years old, could be a key part of this team’s future.<\/p>\n

2. Kansas City Chiefs<\/h3>\n

After a slow start to the season, the Kansas City Chiefs are back and firing on all cylinders. The offense looked like its dominant self during their lopsided 31-0 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, as the return of Rashee Rice<\/a> has Patrick Mahomes in the thick of the MVP race. While this team will always go as far as Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid can carry them, they’ll need a good defense to get through the AFC and return to the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n

George Karlaftis is having a strong season, but the rest of the defensive line could use some work. The rest of the edge defenders leave something to be desired, and Chris Jones isn’t playing up to his usual standards. Kansas City has the talent to go on a deep playoff run, but adding a premier talent like Jermaine Johnson in a trade will only increase their odds of winning a fourth Super Bowl in the Patrick Mahomes Era.<\/p>\n

1. San Francisco 49ers<\/h3>\n

Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers deserve all the credit in the world for entering Week 8 with a 5-2 record. The team endured an absurd amount of injuries and will be without star pass rusher Nick Bosa<\/a> for the remainder of the 2025 season. Bosa is one of the league’s elite talents, and only a handful of players could individually replace his production. Jermaine Johnson is not one of those players, but the 49ers should still consider a trade.<\/p>\n

Shanahan is one of the game’s best coaches, but you need high-end talent to win playoff games. Jermaine Johnson can help this team not only overcome their long run of injuries, but finally help Shanahan hoist that elusive Lombardi Trophy.<\/p>\n
