Week 8 is going to be a bit of a challenge for most fantasy football managers, as the NFL, in its infinite wisdom, has decided to give 6 teams off in the same week. I won’t go into my whole “the NFL hates fantasy football” rant, but suffice it to say they could have figured out a way to give four teams off every week for eight weeks, and we could have been done with byes by Week 12. But I digress. Last week, we managed to get by without the services of the two top-rated quarterbacks as Buffalo and Baltimore enjoyed their midseason vacation. This week, it will be more of a quantity over quality issue at the QB position as we will have to make do without Jared Goff, Sam Darnold, Trevor Lawrence, Matthew Stafford, and Kyler Murray. All solid options, but none of them have been fixtures on our top-10 quarterback rankings so far this season.

Also, Jayden Daniels owners will likely be without their QB1 as he will miss time with a hamstring injury. On a side note, the Raiders are also not playing this week, so if Geno Smith’s mom is reading this article, your baby boy won’t be on TV this Sunday. I highly doubt that anybody, including Mrs. Smith, will miss Geno for fantasy purposes this weekend. Now that we’ve covered who isn’t playing, let’s run through the list of the top ten active options for this week.

Top 10 Week 8 Quarterback Rankings

1) Josh Allen vs. Panthers

Allen returns after a week off, and his owners can now drop whoever they picked up to fill in for their top fantasy scorer last week. Allen is a set it and forget it option and won’t ever spend another second on your bench, barring the unthinkable. This week, he gets a Carolina team that will most likely be led by Andy Dalton under center at Bank of America Stadium. This isn’t exactly a downgrade to the Panthers offense, and they should put up enough points between the veteran signal caller and their running game to keep Buffalo in attack mode all day. Get Allen back in your lineup and relax.

2) Lamar Jackson vs. Bears

Jackson has been out since Week 4 with a hamstring injury, and the hope is that the team held him out through their bye week to ensure that the two-time MVP will return this week completely healthy. As of now, we will have to keep an eye on the injury reports, but it’s more than likely Jackson will suit up this Sunday to take on the Bears in a game the 1-5 Ravens need to win. Baltimore may lean heavily on Derrick Henry, as they are also expected to get their massive fullback, Patrick Ricard, back, which will certainly help the running game. If Lamar is good to go for the Ravens, he’s good to go for your fantasy team. Fire him up.

3) Jalen Hurts vs. Giants

Somehow or another, there has been this crazy talk amongst fans that this guy isn’t an elite quarterback. While he may not be a traditional drop-back passer, he can sling the ball downfield as well as most passers, while adding an element with his legs unlike any other QB in the league. Add in his work ethic and leadership ability, and you get a QB that any team in the league would be thrilled to have guiding their offense. His legs weren’t needed last week as he connected for 326 yards and 3 scores against the Vikings. Truth be told, none of his receiving corps outside of A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith were needed either, as they combined for 304 of those yards and all three scores. This week, he gets a revenge opportunity against the Giants, who just beat Philly two weeks ago in the Thursday night game. Don’t expect the Eagles to take their foot off the gas as they will look to put an old-fashioned, tush pushin’ beat down on Big Blue. Fire him up and expect at least 20 fantasy points.

4) Patrick Mahomes vs. Commanders

Photo Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

Mahomes is so good that he was able to put up over 26 points last week without even playing the 4th quarter. His offense is now clicking on all cylinders as they welcomed back Rashee Rice to their receiver room to join a finally healthy Xavier Worthy, along with Hollywood Brown, Juju Smith-Schuster, Tyquon Thornton, and Travis Kelce. Mahomes is having one of the best seasons of his career, and the only negative I can possibly see is that he won’t need to run as much as he has in the early going since he will now have plenty of open targets downfield. Luckily for his fantasy owners, the Chiefs still don’t have much of a running game, so Mahomes will keep slinging it until the games get comfortably out of reach for their opponents. This week, the Chiefs take on Marcus Mariota and the Commanders, and Mahomes should be able to put up numbers similar to what Dak Prescott did against them last week. He’s an easy every-week starter regardless of opponent.

5) Bo Nix vs. Cowboys

Here we are again. Insert “Quarterback X against the Cowboys” in our top 10 every week, regardless of who that QB happens to be. Even somebody like Bryce Young managed to have one of his best games of the season against Dallas, so why wouldn’t we want to fire up an exciting young player coming off of his best fantasy game of the season? It’s a rhetorical question; we would and we do and we will. Nix caught fire in the 4th quarter last week against the Giants and ended up being the top fantasy scorer for the week with almost 40 points. I wouldn’t expect that perfect storm to happen again this week, but he will be a top 10 option against a Dallas squad that is ranked dead last against the pass in the league. The Cowboys have played in shootouts every week and even a stout Denver defense isn’t going to completely shut down Dak and company. If Jackson Dart and the Giants can post 30+ points against the Broncos in Denver, there’s no reason to think the Cowboys won’t be able to post a similar number on the scoreboard. Get any pieces of this game you may have on your roster in your lineup this week.

6) Dak Prescott vs. Broncos

Almost everything I just wrote about Bo Nix and Patrick Mahomes also applies to Dak. Like Mahomes, Dak’s offense is now clicking on all cylinders as he was able to welcome back CeeDee Lamb to join George Pickens, Jake Ferguson, and Javonte Williams on a Dallas unit that was already averaging over 30 points per game. With Lamb in the mix, the team messed around and scored over 40 in week 7. Like Nix, Dak will be playing in a game that will involve the Cowboys defense. Prescott’s fantasy owners have that luxury every single week, which makes Dak an easy every-week starter in fantasy. Fire Dak up and expect him to put up north of 20 fantasy points for the 5th straight game.

7) Baker Mayfield vs. Saints

Baker put up a dud on Monday night against the Lions in a game that fell well short of our expectations. Both Mayfield and Goff had down games in a matchup that failed to come close to the expected 50+ point total that fantasy owners and fans alike were hoping to see. Not only did Baker lose the game, but he lost Mike Evans for the foreseeable future with a broken collarbone as well as a concussion, both of which he suffered on the same play. The Buccaneers will look to regroup this week against a Saints team that hasn’t been able to get things going at all this year. The worry would normally be that the Bucs won’t need to score much to win this game, but I feel like Mayfield is going to look to score early and often to get his young receivers involved as they prepare for tougher matchups ahead after their week 9 bye. Emeka Egbuka was able to make it through Week 7 without issue after a hamstring injury forced him from the Bucs’ Week 6 game. Look for Baker to connect with the rookie phenom as well as one or both of his other young pass catchers on multiple scores.

8) Caleb Williams vs. Ravens

Williams has been a bit up and down thus far this season, but I really like this matchup in Baltimore for a few reasons. The Ravens defense has been extremely beatable so far this season, and even though they will welcome back both Roquan Johnson and Chidobe Awuzie, they are still far from a shutdown unit. Add in the fact that Lamar Jackson should return for a Baltimore team that needs this win, and we have a nice setup for a potential shootout. Williams and the Bears will need to put up 24+ points to have a chance of staying in this game, and I expect the second-year signal caller to put up a solid fantasy day in the process. Look for Williams to get involved with the running game more this week, as that aspect of his game has been lacking in the Bears’ last few games. Remember, for fantasy, we want to start the quarterback who will be chasing in the second half rather than playing with a lead.

9) Jackson Dart vs. Eagles

Speaking of quarterbacks that will be chasing in the second half, Dart is set up for a big game this weekend against the Eagles. Two weeks ago, he was able to use both his arm and his legs to put up an impressive 23.6 fantasy points as the Giants shocked the Eagles on Thursday night. This week, the G-Men travel to Philly to take on an Eagles team that will be looking for revenge. I expect the Eagles to put up a big number on New York, forcing Dart to have to throw the ball all game long. We saw last week that even when he’s inefficient, he can pile up yards, as he was able to amass 283 yards and three scores with only 15 completions in 33 pass attempts. This week, I expect Dart to eclipse 300 yards for the first time in his career, as well as contribute fantasy points with his legs. In his 4 starts thus far, he has averaged almost 9 (8.95) fantasy points per game on the ground alone. For comparison, Lamar Jackson has averaged 5.1, Josh Allen has averaged 7.2, and Jalen Hurts has averaged 7.1. Dart has worked his way into the must-start conversation as he has been a top 12 QB every week since being named the starter.

10) Drake Maye vs. Browns

Maye has been an easy top 10 option every week this season, but this week, he suffers a bit from a tough matchup. The Browns have been stifling opposing QBs as their defense ranks 3rd in the league against the position in fantasy scoring, while their offense doesn’t score enough to force their opponents to push the ball for 4 quarters. The Pats should be able to handle the Browns this weekend, and we are starting Maye in hopes that he is able to contribute with his legs, as he may have to scramble to avoid Myles Garrett and friends. Cleveland will suppress the New England running game, so any scoring that the Patriots achieve will most likely come by Maye’s hand (or arm). Much like some other starting options like Daniel Jones against Tennessee, we have to worry that a lower-scoring game will hold down fantasy points, but Maye has been too good this season to hit your bench.

For more help with your fantasy football lineups, check out our Week 8 Start/Sit Recommendations.

Welcome to Bye-mageddon!
