If you didn’t have him in your lineup, then you left points on your bench, as that performance ended up being the best of the week at the tight end position across the entire league. Trey McBride and Tyler Warren held serve as two of the top three options at the position with fantastic days, and Jake Ferguson didn’t hurt us as he was able to find the end zone despite a lackluster 3 catches for a 33-yard stat line. Other than that, it was a bit of a mixed bag as the only other tight ends who were able to score 13+ fantasy (PPR) points without the assistance of a touchdown were Travis Kelce, who tallied 6 catches for 73 yards on Sunday night, and Harold Fanin who grabbed 7 for 81 in a game that saw David Njoku leave with an injury. If you have Kelce, now would be a great time to see if you can trade him, as he just had a nice week, and he will likely take a back seat to Rashee Rice going forward. If you can trade Kelce for Harold Fannin Jr., even better, as Fannin’s stock will shoot up if Njoku misses any time. All was not a total loss at the position as a bunch of guys found the painted paradise last week, including Darren Waller, Tyler Higbee, Michael Mayer, Sam LaPorta, Zach Ertz, and Dawson Knox (filling in for an injured Dalton Kincaid). While nobody was able to eclipse Goedert’s opening performance of the week, there were plenty of solid options available for fantasy owners. Now let’s take a look at the top 10 tight end rankings for week 7.

Top 10 Week 7 Tight End Rankings

1) Tyler Warren @ Chargers

Warren has been the Sam LaPorta/Brock Bowers version rookie tight end we were hoping we drafted when we took the chance on him in the mid-to-late rounds of our fantasy drafts. Taken as about the #9-10 player at the position, he has steadily contributed all season long, making him our top choice for Week 7. He has proven to be a matchup nightmare for opponents and has now scored in three straight games since he was able to find the end zone for the first time in week 4. Look for him to remain one of Daniel Jones’ top targets on a weekly basis and treat him as one of the few “set it and forget it” options at this otherwise thin position.

2) Trey McBride vs. Packers

Kyler Murray missed the Cardinals‘ Week 6 game, and it turned out to be a good thing for McBride owners in fantasy. Jacoby Brissett locked in on the big target, especially after Marvin Harrison was forced from the game in the second quarter with a concussion. On the day, he totaled 11 targets, resulting in 8 grabs for 72 yards and his second touchdown of the season. The end zone appearance was especially encouraging, as that has been the one shortcoming we can point to in McBride’s game. This week, the Cards face a Packers team that normally defends the tight end position as an afterthought, as they rank 27th overall in the league against the tight end position in fantasy points allowed. It will be better for McBride if Harrison can play, so he’s not the lone focal point of Green Bay’s defensive plan, but he should still have a big day as the Cardinals figure to be in chase mode for most of the day.

3) Jake Ferguson vs. Commanders

Photo Credit: Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

If I told you before the draft that in Week 6, Jake Ferguson would have 3 catches for 33 yards and a touchdown, you would have thought, “Boy, I sure hope I happen to have him in that week.” We didn’t imagine that a 12+ point fantasy day would qualify as a down week when we took a stab at Fergy after almost every other owner had selected their tight end, and we likely drafted another option like Kyle Pitts or Zach Ertz to have as “plan B” if the Cowboys pass catcher didn’t work out. Keep Ferg in your lineup for this matchup against the Commanders, as it should be the highest-scoring game of the week.

4) Tucker Kraft vs. Cardinals

Photo Credit: Wm. They didn’t need much more than what Josh Jacobs gave them on the ground to grind out a two-score win, so fantasy points were a bit lean when it came to their pass catchers. Kraft saved his day with a 19-yard TD reception in the 4th quarter to help salt away the game for Green Bay. Kraft will remain a fixture as a red zone threat amongst Green Bay’s otherwise smallish receiver corps all season long and should be a weekly starter for your fantasy team. This week, he gets a sweet matchup against an Arizona defense that ranks 28th in the league against the pass.

5) Sam LaPorta vs. Buccaneers

LaPorta has finally come to life over the past two weeks with consecutive games with 5 catches, 50+ yards, and a touchdown. This is what we were hoping for when we drafted him as the 4th or 5th tight end off the board after the big three of Bowers, McBride, and Kittle were taken. This game very well may be a shootout as the Lions return home after a Week 6 loss against the Chiefs. I expect coach Campbell to have his team ready to score and score often as they try and hang 50+ points again, like they did the last time they played at home after a road loss on a Sunday night. As of now, he has yet to practice this week and should end up as a game-time decision on Sunday. Even if he does play, Fannin merits consideration as Dillon Gabriel has shown he will lean heavily on the short passing game, and that means a heavy dose of both Fannin and Njoku. Last week, after his teammate left the game, Fannin was able to shine as he corralled 7 of his 10 targets for a healthy 81 yards. This week, the Browns host a Dolphins defense that ranks 30th overall and 26th against the tight end in fantasy points allowed.

7) Evan Engram vs. Giants

Revenge game narrative, anybody? He has only faced his former team one time, while a member of the Jaguars, and he didn’t exactly light the world on fire in that game with 4 grabs for 67 yards. What I like more about this matchup is the fact that Engram appears to finally be healthy after missing two games to start this season and slowly ramping up each week after appearing in Week 3 against the Titans. Over his last 3 games, he has garnered 7, 6, and 6 targets, and he has just looked more comfortable operating in this offense with Bo Nix. Last week’s game in London was a complete slog, and he was able to convert his 6 targets into 5 grabs for 42 yards. Most intriguing about Engram for this week is a Giants team that has really struggled with covering the tight end this season. We just saw what Dallas Goedert did against them on Thursday night, so let’s get Engram in our lineups and hope for maybe half of the 29 PPR points that the Eagles TE was able to put up.

8) T.J. Not only does he drive you crazy every time you’re near him, but he also now owes you money. Enough is enough, and this week, he had better pay us back, or we are completely done with him. Before their Week 6 bye, the Vikings looked like they were really trying to get their big tight end involved more in their game plan, as he was targeted six times for the second time this season. He grabbed all 6 of those targets for a big fat 38 yards without a score. Those numbers are great for somebody like Cade Otton, but this guy had almost 1,000 yards two years ago in a season that was cut short by injury. This week, we expect the Vikings to go back to J.J. McCarthy under center, and we are rolling the dice that they spent the bye week streamlining their pass attack to feature Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson in a nice, tight target tree that will feed all three players without the benefit of immense volume. The Eagles have been tough against tight ends this season, but with enough volume, Hock should still finish as a top 10 option.

9) Cade Otton @ Lions

Hey, was somebody just bagging on poor Cade Otton in the last write-up? No offense to the family and friends of Mr. Otton, but he is the epitome of the generic tight end in the NFL. He’s great in real life as he can block and he has steady hands, but the Bucs just don’t run their offense through him, and he typically gives us 3 or 4 catches for 25-30 yards. At the end of the day, there really isn’t much of a difference between Otton, A.J. Barner, Tyler Higbee, Tyler Conklin, Daulton Schultz… OK, you get it. There are a lot of good real-life players who attended Tight End University, but they don’t all help our fantasy teams. These guys typically need to score us a touchdown to have any value. This week, we’re rolling the dice on Otton as the Bucs are down yet another receiving option as Emeka Egbuka is set to miss time with a hamstring issue. Last week, Otton saw 6 targets and converted them into 5 grabs for 51 yards without a score. I’m anticipating this game being a bit of a shootout, so I can endorse rolling out Otton this week in the hopes he can find the end zone.

10) Dallas Goedert @ Vikings

This is a tough one for me because I don’t completely trust the Eagles’ pass offense. We’ve seen big games from Goedert before, and when we need him most, he tends to let us down. Through five games this season, he has three games with seven or more targets and two games with four or fewer. It will come down to how much the Eagles plan to throw the ball and where Hurts will be looking when that time comes. I expect this game plan to be more run-heavy as Minnesota has struggled to stop their opponent’s running game while ranking #2 in the league against the pass. The position is thin, so Goedert is the best of what’s left, but I just feel like we’re chasing last week’s points.

Other options that you can run with include Zach Ertz in what should be a high-scoring affair in Dallas, and of course, George Kittle if he makes it back off the IR for San Francisco.
