After 7 weeks of the college football season, these 10 teams have established themselves as the top dogs in our Big 12 rankings.<\/p>\n

2025 College Football: Big 12 Rankings<\/h2>\n

1. Texas Tech Red Raiders<\/h3>\n

Man, that oil money just works differently in college football. I can\u2019t help but feel like I\u2019m supporting Texas Tech\u2019s NIL fund every time I fill up my car. All jokes aside, the Red Raiders\u2019 spectacular transfer class has rebuilt Joey McGuire\u2019s defense and has created what appears to be a juggernaut in the Big 12.<\/p>\n

2. Arizona State Sun Devils<\/h3>\n

Look, I\u2019m not going to punish Arizona State for losing a game with Jeff Sims at quarterback. Mostly because I didn\u2019t know Jeff Sims was still playing quarterback. I figured he graduated about 3 years ago. Either way, I believe the Sun Devils will have Sam Leavitt back for a season-defining game against Texas Tech in Week 8. It\u2019s the biggest game remaining on the Big 12 schedule.<\/p>\n

3. Utah Utes<\/h3>\n

After beating Jeff Sims and Arizona State in Week 7, the Utes are back in the driver\u2019s seat to reach the Big 12 championship game, as long as they keep winning. What awaits Kyle Whittingham and the Utes in Week 8? A trip to Provo to play BYU in the annual \u201cHoly War.\u201d This one should be fun.<\/p>\n

4. Cincinnati Bearcats<\/h3>\n

Don\u2019t look now \u2013 but Scott Satterfield\u2019s Bearcats are undefeated in Big 12 play, and do not appear to be an easy out. It seems to be a different receiver who steps up every week for Brendan Sorsby, and it was Jeff Caldwell in Week 7. The Bearcats have what I am referring to as their \u201cOklahoma State Bye\u201d in Week 8.<\/p>\n

5. BYU Cougars<\/h3>\n

Like Bachman-Turner Overdrive, BYU just keeps taking care of business. They needed a clutch Bear Bachmeier run in double overtime to escape Tucson with a win over a pesky Arizona team. I still don\u2019t know if this BYU team is any good because they haven\u2019t beaten anyone good. We\u2019ll find out a lot this week when the Cougars host Utah.<\/p>\n

6. Baylor Bears<\/h3>\n

The Bears were off in Week 7, and the bye week still scored 30 points on them. But the good news is that the offense scored 49. All jokes aside, Baylor\u2019s mediocre defense is going to force them to outscore opponents to win games, a task that Sawyer Robertson and Bryson Washington are built for.<\/p>\n

7. TCU Horned Frogs<\/h3>\n

The Horned Frogs are essentially North Baylor. Josh Hoover continues to look like one of the top QBs in the country, but the defense has to step up for this team to win football games. Week 7 brought a disappointing loss to Kansas State as the defense could not get off the field.<\/p>\n

8. Kansas State Wildcats<\/h3>\n

The Wildcats are starting to find their rhythm after their early-season struggles. A key component of that has been the team\u2019s health, as they are now as injury-free as they have been since Week 0. Avery Johnson has all the potential in the world, and if he realizes it, this is a team to watch out for over the second half of the season.<\/p>\n

9. Iowa State Cyclones<\/h3>\n

The Cyclones are currently in a free fall, and the bye week comes at the exact right time in Week 8. After two straight losses, this team needs a week to rest, heal up, and get back to 100% if they want to continue to be a factor over the second half of the season.<\/p>\n

10. Kansas Jayhawks<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s hard for me to knock Kansas too much after getting dominated by the juggernaut that is Texas Tech. This is still a dangerous team with a lot to play for, and a QB in Jalon Daniels who would love to slay one more giant before he rides off into the sunset.<\/p>\n
