Unfortunately, they currently sit in the division’s basement with a 2-4 record as Smith struggles to adapt to his new environment.

With no realistic shot at the playoffs, Vegas should focus on rebuilding and spending the rest of the season seeing what they have in their young wide receivers. New England Patriots

The New England Patriots messed up when they effectively allowed Meyers to walk in favor of Juju Smith-Schuster. Now, it’s time to rectify that mistake with a trade that will bring Jakobi Meyers back to his original team. While Tom Brady may not be in town anymore, the Patriots seem to have another great quarterback in Drake Maye. The second-year pro is destroying defenses through the air and has the team atop the AFC East.

New England doesn’t need another wide receiver, as Stefon Diggs and Kayshon Boutte have played well throughout the season. However, Maye’s contract is arguably the biggest competitive advantage in football, and the team should go all-in on building a roster that can go deep in the playoffs. They have the quarterback; now it’s time to build everything else.

Jun 9, 2025; Foxborough, MA, USA; New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye (10) holds a press conference after minicamp at Gillette Stadium. Pittsburgh Steelers

Aaron Rodgers has the Pittsburgh Steelers atop the AFC North with a 4-1 record, but we’ve seen this movie before. Winning games in the regular season isn’t an issue for Mike Tomlin’s Steelers, but going on deep playoff runs is an issue. The team hasn’t won a postseason contest since the 2016 season, and they must find more talent if they want that to change in 2025.

DK Metcalf has been a great addition for this team, but someone must step up at the WR2. Seeing as Pittsburgh’s younger receivers haven’t done much to earn the spot, the team should trade for Jakobi Meyers. Pittsburgh needs a reliable threat in the short and intermediate passing game, and Meyers is likely the best option available.

Sep 28, 2025; Dublin, Ireland; Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) and defensive tackle Cameron Heyward (97) leave the field after an NFL International Series game against the Minnesota Vikings at Croke Park. The team believes in the potential of the former undrafted free agent, as they traded Adam Thielen largely because Carolina believed he could handle a larger role. However, he immediately suffered a quad injury and just returned to practice.

If Jalen Coker is truly healthy, then the Panthers have no reason to trade for Jakobi Meyers. However, if he’s still struggling to stay on the field, then Meyers could be exactly what this team needs. Don’t look now, but the Panthers are 3-3 and firmly in the Wild Card race. Bryce Young has improved in Year 3, and he could be even better if the team gives him a proven veteran like Meyers to round out his supporting cast.

Aug 8, 2025; Charlotte, North Carolina, USA; Carolina Panthers wide receiver Jalen Coker (18) celebrates with quarterback Bryce Young (9) after a touchdown catch in the first quarter at Bank of America Stadium. San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have battled injury after injury this year, but are still 4-2 and atop the NFC West. Whether it’s Mac Jones or Brock Purdy the rest of the way, the team’s quarterback will need healthy receivers. Ricky Pearsall is slowly working his way back to action, while Jauan Jennings is battling through an absurd amount of injuries.

Kyle Shanahan’s scheme is great, and a Jakobi Meyers trade should allow him to get even more creative with the playbook. Meyers might not be the best after the catch, but he can create separation and should be a natural fit for the team’s quick passing attack.

Sep 7, 2025; Seattle, Washington, USA; San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch, right, talks with head coach Kyle Shanahan during pregame warmups against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field.
