Head coach Andy Reid declined to offer much clarity about Simmons\u2019 potential return after he missed Sunday night\u2019s win over the Detroit Lions<\/a> for personal reasons, leaving questions about the offensive line\u2019s makeup heading into a key divisional matchup.<\/p>\n

When asked postgame about Simmons\u2019 situation, Reid<\/a> didn\u2019t offer much insight into when the rookie might rejoin the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll see when he\u2019s (Josh Simmons) back. He\u2019s got to take care of that then we\u2019ll see where it goes from there. But we were aware of it, yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Reid followed up with reporters again on Monday<\/a>, doubling down on his stance to keep the matter private.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs far as Josh\u2019s (Simmons) situation goes, it\u2019s a personal issue,\u201d Reid said. \u201cI\u2019m not going to talk about that; I did a little bit last night (and) then leave it at that. But I thought Jaylon (Moore) stepped in and did a nice job there.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

According to The Athletic<\/em>\u2019s Nate Taylor on the “Only Weird Games“<\/em> podcast<\/a>, the Chiefs still don\u2019t know when Simmons will be back with the team, and it wouldn\u2019t be a surprise if Jaylon Moore starts again this Sunday versus the Raiders.<\/p>\n

Chiefs\u2019 Left Tackle Turnover Has Been a Recurring Issue<\/h3>\n

The uncertainty surrounding Simmons\u2019 status is nothing new for Kansas City\u2019s offensive line. The team has faced recurring instability at the left tackle position in recent seasons. Last year alone, the Chiefs cycled through four different players at the spot before ultimately relying on All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney to finish the season protecting Patrick Mahomes\u2019 blind side.<\/p>\n

That revolving door was one of the main reasons Kansas City invested in both Moore and Simmons during the offseason, with the hope of solidifying the position long-term. With the latter\u2019s absence, it will likely once again be on Moore to hold his own against another All-Pro-caliber pass rusher this coming Sunday.<\/p>\n

Jaylon Moore Steps Up in Simmons\u2019 Absence<\/h3>\n

Despite Simmons\u2019 absence against Detroit, the Chiefs\u2019 offensive line held up well thanks to Jaylon Moore\u2019s performance in his first start. Moore allowed one sack and three total pressures across 40 pass-blocking snaps while facing All-Pro edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson for much of the night. Head coach Andy Reid expressed high praise for the debutant\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought he was solid. He did a nice job. He was going against an all-pro player 50% of the time\u2026 He was solid in the run game, too, run and pass. He had a productive day.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Moore\u2019s poise under pressure has earned the trust of both coaches and teammates<\/a>, and if Simmons remains unavailable for Week 7, the Chiefs appear confident that Moore can handle Maxx Crosby and the Raiders\u2019 aggressive front. While the team awaits clarity on Simmons\u2019 situation, Kansas City at least knows it has a capable replacement ready to step in.<\/p>\n
