The Cleveland Browns are likely to sell at the trade deadline, and tight end David Njoku is likely the most valuable asset that could realistically join a new team. Selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft<\/a>, the Miami product has been one of the league’s more productive all-around tight ends over the past few years, but he may not have a future with the Cleveland Browns. Rookie tight end Harold Fannin<\/a> appears to be the real deal, and he could make Njoku expendable.<\/p>\n

4 Teams That Could Trade For David Njoku<\/h2>\n

In a vacuum, teams can easily afford to have two reliable tight ends, especially when a young quarterback like Dillon Gabriel is running the offense. However, the tight end is in the final year of his contract and is playing in his age-29 season. He’s too old to be a part of this rebuild, and the Browns should trade David Njoku while they can still get something of value for his services.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1. Los Angeles Chargers<\/h3>\n

The Los Angeles Chargers enter Week 7 with the top spot in a crowded AFC West. Currently sitting at 4-2, the team would host a playoff game if the season ended today, but the 4-2 Denver Broncos and 3-3 Kansas City Chiefs are on their heels. Justin Herbert is having a fantastic season, but this team must add some talent to overcome their endless run of injuries and to stay ahead of their division rivals.<\/p>\n

The best thing to do is trade for a reliable tight end like David Njoku. Tyler Conklin is a replacement-level player at this stage in his career, and you don’t want to put too much on Ordone Gadsen’s plate, even though he has played well in small doses. Given the injured state of the offensive line<\/a>, Herbert could use someone like Njoku, who can help in the trenches and serve as a reliable checkdown.<\/p>\n

2. Washington Commanders<\/h3>\n

The Washington Commanders are a good football team, but they’re not quite as dominant as they were down the stretch last year. Second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels<\/a> seems to be playing through injuries, and he needs more help to elevate this offense.<\/p>\n

Washington has a few big names at tight end, but a David Njoku trade would dramatically upgrade the talent at the position. John Bates and Ben Sinnott are better in smaller roles, and Zach Ertz is starting to show signs of age. While Njoku won’t singlehandedly fix the offense, he will provide a much-needed steadying presence at the position.<\/p>\n

3. Carolina Panthers<\/h3>\n

At 3-3, the Carolina Panthers find themselves in the thick of the playoff hunt. While the team probably won’t usurp the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South, they could easily fight for a playoff spot with Bryce Young making the Year 3 leap. While the wide receiver room has plenty of young talent, the tight end position could use some work.<\/p>\n

It’s early, but Mithcell Evans already looks like one of the league’s better blockers at the tight end position. However, he still has yet to prove himself as a receiver, as he only has one game with more than one reception. A David Njoku trade would give Young another set of hands and add a crucial veteran presence to one of the youngest groups of pass-catchers in the league.<\/p>\n

4. Kansas City Chiefs<\/h3>\n

The Kansas City Chiefs survived the Rashee Rice suspension, and the offense should get a lift now that they have their best receiver back on the field. However, while Rice should elevate this offense, Kansas City shouldn’t be content with the rest of its roster.<\/p>\n

Travis Kelce is still a good player, but he’s not the unstoppable force he was throughout most of his career. Noah Gray is an adequate backup, but the Chiefs should consider upgrading the room with a David Njoku trade.<\/p>\n
