A second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Iowa State product is one of the game’s more dangerous three-down backs when healthy. Running backs are dropping like flies, and the following four teams should be willing to give up a pick for him.

Main Photo: Kevin R. Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have embraced the pass in the 2025 season, but they still need someone to take carries. The team entered the offseason with what appeared to be a strong backfield led by veteran Najee Harris and first-round pick Omarion Hampton. However, Harris tore his Achilles, and Hampton just landed on the short-term injured reserve, and now this backfield is one of the weakest in sports.

As of this posting, Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal will fight to start for the Chargers. Running back may not be the most important position in the game, but the Chargers need more help than this if they want to win a competitive AFC West. A Breece Hall trade would give the Chargers a fantastic short-term workhorse and an elite running back duo when Hampton returns to the field.

Sep 21, 2025; Inglewood, California, USA; Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton (8) is tripped up by Denver Broncos cornerback Riley Moss (21) after a first down in the fourth quarter at SoFi Stadium. New England Patriots

The New England Patriots proved they are a legitimate playoff threat when they took down the Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football. Now, they need to build a roster that can adequately support second-year quarterback Drake Maye. Antonio Gibson is done for the year, Rhamondre Stevenson cannot hold on to the football, and second-round pick TreVeyon Henderson has yet to earn the coaching staff’s trust.

Would the Jets ever trade Breece Hall to a division rival like the Patriots? While it’s probably not the preferred destination for their second-round pick, they could make the move if New England makes the highest offer.

Sep 21, 2025; Foxborough, Massachusetts, USA; New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye (10) hands off the ball to New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson (38) during the first quarter at Gillette Stadium. Kansas City Chiefs

At 2-3, the Kansas City Chiefs must do something to salvage their season. While the inevitable return of Rashee Rice will help the offense, this unit could also use a better running back. Isiah Pacheco is nothing special, Kareem Hunt is old, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes is probably the team’s most dangerous runner.

That could change with a Breece Hall trade. Andy Reid’s starting running back used to be one of the most dangerous weapons in football, but he hasn’t had a player capable of handling a full-time role since Hunt’s first stint with the team. Hall is talented enough to handle a three-down role with this team and could help unlock a long-dormant part of the offense.

Aug 22, 2025; Kansas City, Missouri, USA; Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco (10) celebrates with wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (9) against the Chicago Bears after a run during the first half of the game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears are getting by with D’Andre Swift leading the backfield, but there’s certainly room for improvement here. Through four games, the veteran is averaging just 3.3 yards per carry while ranking 38th out of 50 eligible running backs in PFF grade.

Quite frankly, this isn’t going to cut it in a Ben Johnson offense. Johnson is one of the league’s most creative offensive minds, but he still needs players to make plays on the field. Breece Hall would be a major upgrade for this team, and a trade could help Chicago compete in a loaded division.

May 9, 2025; Lake Forest, IL, USA; Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson (R) looks on during the Rookie Minicamp at Halas Hall.
