This report comes straight from Nick Underhill of New Orleans Football, who is widely regarded as one of the most well-connected beat reporters out there. Frankly, this report isn’t too surprising, as the Saints are in the midst of a long-overdue rebuild and need as many draft picks as possible to address the flaws in their roster.

4 Players the Saints Should Sell At the Trade Deadline

The Saints don’t have the most talented roster, but they do have some players who should generate some trade interest. While the Saints shouldn’t expect to receive first-round picks in exchange for these players, they should be willing to take whatever they can get.

Main Photo: Stephen Lew – Imagn Images

1. Cameron Jordan

At his best, Cameron Jordan was one of the game’s elite pass rushers. Originally entering the league as a first-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the California product made eight Pro Bowls, won First-Team All-Pro honors in 2017, and earned a spot on the Hall of Fame’s All-2010s Team. That version of Cameron Jordan doesn’t exist anymore, but he can still be a valuable depth piece for the right organization.

Through five games, the veteran has recorded 12 tackles and 2.5 sacks on the season. While he probably shouldn’t be starting at this point in his career, the Saints legend could be a great rotational edge defender for a contender looking to bolster their pass rush at the trade deadline. Seeing as he’s a free agent at the end of the year, New Orleans would probably accept a fifth-round pick for his services.

Main Photo: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images

2. Alvin Kamara

Speaking of Saints legends, Alvin Kamara could join a new team at the trade deadline. Once considered to be among the game’s elite running backs, age has caught up to the 30-year-old. While he’s no longer an elite talent, he’s still an above-average starter who should have a market.

Running backs are dropping like flies, and teams should be interested in a versatile three-down back like Kamara. With Kendre Miller showing promise, an Alvin Kamara trade could net the Saints a decent draft pick and also give Miller the opportunity to show what he can do with a featured role.

Sep 14, 2025; New Orleans, Louisiana, USA; New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler (2) hands off to running back Alvin Kamara (41) against the San Francisco 49ers during the second half at Caesars Superdome. Trevor Penning

Trevor Penning never worked out with the New Orleans Saints, but perhaps another team could roll the dice on him at the trade deadline. Selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Northern Iowa product has extensive experience at both tackle positions and is currently playing guard for Kellen Moore’s squad.

Truth be told, Trevor Penning is not a starting-caliber offensive lineman. With that being said, there aren’t enough good linemen to go around, and Penning’s versatility should be appealing to teams with questionable depth in the trenches. While he probably won’t generate more than a late-round pick in a trade, that’s still better than watching him walk for nothing in free agency.

Aug 10, 2025; Inglewood, California, USA; New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler (2) carries the ball followed by guard Torricelli Simpkins III (68) and offensive tackle Trevor Penning (70) against the Los Angeles Chargers in the second half at SoFi Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images

4. Rashid Shaheed

Rashid Shaheed could probably generate the biggest return at the trade deadline, as the former undrafted free agent has overcome the odds and developed into a quality receiver for the Saints. Blessed with fantastic deep speed, Shaheed has the ability to score on any given play, and that will make him a desirable asset to just about any team in the league.

The only question is whether or not the Saints will make him available. On the one hand, he plays an important position, is only 27, and has already developed a rapport with potential franchise quarterback Spencer Rattler. On the other hand, he’ll be a free agent at the end of the season and New Orleans probably can’t afford to keep him around for the long haul, given their salary cap restrictions.

Main Photo: Jay Biggerstaff-Imagn Images

Despite earning their first win of the season in Week 5, the New Orleans Saints are expected to sell during the trade deadline.
