Early in the contest, the veteran running back took a hard hit while returning a kickoff. While Gibson left the field on his own power, he was moving gingerly and was quickly ruled out after a short stint in the medical tent.

While we do not know the severity of the injury as of this posting, it’s safe to assume the veteran won’t see the field for a while. The Patriots had a weak running back depth chart, and the lack of depth is even more obvious following the Antonio Gibson injury.

4 Running Backs the Patriots Could Trade For Following the Antonio Gibson Injury

With Antonio Gibson (presumably) sidelined indefinitely with his injury, the Patriots will rely on veteran Rhamondre Stevenson and rookie TreVeyon Henderson. Stevenson cannot shake his fumble issues, while Henderson is clearly not ready for a featured role in the offense. The Patriots proved themselves to be a legitimate playoff contender following their win over the Bills, and these four players could help Mike Vrabel’s squad maintain their positive momentum.

Main Photo: Tina MacIntyre – Imagn Images

1. Jerome Ford, Browns

Second-round pick Quinshon Judkins is the future of the Cleveland Browns backfield. Despite missing a sizable portion of the offseason with contract and legal issues, the Ohio State product has dominated since joining the team. Playing in four games, Judkins has recorded 347 yards and two touchdowns on 72 carries (4.8 yards per attempt).

This makes Jerome Ford expendable and an ideal trade target. The former fifth-round pick is no superstar, but he proved to be an adequate starter while filling in for Nick Chubb in 2023 and 2024. Capable of making plays as a runner and a receiver, the veteran is an ideal fit for New England’s running back by committee.

Main Photo: Ken Blaze-Imagn Images

2. Alvin Kamara, Saints

The New Orleans Saints won their first game of the Kellen Moore Era, but this shouldn’t prevent them from considering an Alvin Kamara trade. After kicking the can down the road for years, the team is finally embracing a much-needed rebuild, and the 30-year-old Kamara shouldn’t be a part of their long-term plans.

Kamara isn’t the player he used to be, but he’s still an above-average starter who can be a major upgrade for the Patriots following the Antonio Gibson injury. Kamara himself would probably prefer to spend his final years playing with a contender, and he could grow to be a valuable weapon for budding superstar Drake Maye.

Main Photo: Joe Nicholson-Imagn Images

3. Tyler Allgeier, Falcons

Tyler Allgeier is a starting-caliber running back, as evidenced by his 1,000-yard rookie season. Now entering the final year of his rookie deal, Atlanta could maximize their return for Allgeier by trading him to the New England Patriots.

Main Photo: Dale Zanine-Imagn Images

4. Justice Hill, Ravens

Nobody thought the Baltimore Ravens would be sellers at the trade deadline entering the season, but that could be the case as the team’s injury-plagued season spirals. Now 1-4 and with Lamar Jackson hurt, the team might try to sell some of their assets for improved draft capital.

With Derrick Henry still going strong, the Baltimore Ravens could trade Justice Hill following the Antonio Gibson injury. Like Ford, Hill is not a star player, but he can do a little bit of everything and is an ideal fit for a committee backfield. He won’t prevent TreVeyon Henderson from getting on the field once he’s more comfortable with the offense, but he can see snaps while the rookie adjusts to the increased competition.

The New England Patriots could trade for a running back after veteran Antonio Gibson suffered a knee injury against the Buffalo Bills.

[6431,27,10,8,5,28
1573,6307,9056,4778,7638,7659,8935
post-249759","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-teams","category-falcons","category-ravens","category-browns","category-patriots","category-saints","tag-alvin-kamara","tag-antonio-gibson","tag-jerome-ford","tag-justice-hill","tag-ravens-featured","tag-saints-featured","tag-tyler-allgeier
["GET
