The Atlanta Falcons could eventually trade Kirk Cousins. Grayson Freestone<\/a> of Blogging Dirty thinks the Indianapolis Colts should acquire the veteran quarterback:<\/p>\n

\u201cNevertheless, we all want a draft pick or two out of the starting-caliber quarterback. Fortunately, there is one team that is in the middle of a quarterback mess that could all be solved by adding Cousins. No one can argue that Daniel Jones (and Anthony Richardson<\/a>) are better starting options than Kirk Cousins. Sure, both Colts quarterbacks have had some brilliant moments occasionally, but Cousins’ consistency is what ultimately wins games. Indianapolis’ coaching staff doesn’t have the leash to continue building up their roster and their quarterbacks; they have to win now, or they will get fired. That is why Shane Steichen should be pushing for the Falcons’ veteran quarterback.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Colts have Daniel Jones at quarterback. Is he the answer, or should the team go out and get Cousins?<\/p>\n

Colts Urged to Acquire Quarterback Kirk Cousins From the Atlanta Falcons<\/h2>\n

Looking Back at His Career<\/h3>\n

Washington<\/a> selected Kirk Cousins in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. It was a surprising move, seeing that the team had already selected fellow quarterback Robert Griffin III second overall in the same draft.<\/p>\n

However, due to Griffin\u2019s injuries, Cousins eventually became Washington\u2019s full-time starter. He made his first Pro Bowl during the 2016 campaign as he passed for 4,917 yards and 25 touchdowns.<\/p>\n

In 2018, Cousins signed with the Minnesota Vikings<\/a> on a three-year contract worth $84 million. The Michigan State product would play six seasons with the Vikings, making the Pro Bowl three times. He tore his Achilles tendon during his final season in Minnesota.<\/p>\n

Cousins then signed a four-year, $180 million<\/a> deal with Atlanta in 2024. He passed for 3,508 yards and 18 touchdowns last season before being benched<\/a> in favor of rookie Michael Penix Jr.<\/p>\n

Should the Colts Trade For Him?<\/h3>\n

Daniel Jones<\/a> will begin the season as the Colts\u2019 starting quarterback. He, of course, beat out Anthony Richardson for the job.<\/p>\n

It\u2019ll be interesting to see what type of year Jones will have. Perhaps he\u2019ll pull a Sam Darnold and put together a breakout season. It’s certainly possible. Sometimes, a change of scenery can help a player revive their career.<\/p>\n

Richardson will serve as Jones\u2019 backup. But he could become the starter again if Jones gets injured or plays poorly.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, rookie Riley Leonard<\/a> is the Colts\u2019 No. 3 quarterback. And you never know, he could we wind up starting at some point this season.<\/p>\n

Does it make sense to trade for Cousins? He has had a solid career, making four Pro Bowls. However, he’s not the same player he used to be.<\/p>\n

The Colts need to just ride it out with Jones, Richardson, and Leonard. If their quarterback room struggles mightily and the team has a disastrous season, they can draft a signal-caller in the first round next year. Someone like LSU\u2019s Garrett Nussmeier or Clemson\u2019s Cade Klubnik could be the future face of the franchise.<\/p>\n

Sorry, Kirk Cousins fans in Indy, it\u2019s highly unlikely that he lands in the Hoosier State this season.<\/p>\n
