Cleveland Browns<\/a> head coach Kevin Stefanski might be free from the whole “naming starting quarterback” pressure, but he is still surrounded by all the anticipation to announce their backup QB.<\/p>\n

Their intense positional battle this offseason is partly the reason for the anticipation. Kenny Pickett, who was initially the favorite to be named the starter, is nursing a hamstring injury.<\/p>\n

That leaves the backup QB battle to rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. Or Stefanski could hand the keys to Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley, his recent roster addition<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With the Browns already en route to their third preseason game, Stefanski admitted not having decided on a backup QB yet. But he did give his team a hint on how to emerge as a top candidate.<\/p>\n

Kevin Stefanski Has One Advice to Make a Backup QB<\/h2>\n

In a recent pre-practice press conference, the Browns head coach opened up on the backup QB position and the overall positional depth.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot so concerned about depth chart, honestly. I really like our guys. They continue to work very hard, all of them. I will tell you I\u2019m very, very pleased with that group and how hard they\u2019re working.” Stefanski said.<\/a><\/p>\n

According to Stefanski, a backup quarterback should always be prepared to start as a starting quarterback.<\/p>\n

“As you make decisions like this, you talk to the guys, and you let them in on your thought process. But all of them should consider themselves, get ready as a starter. That\u2019s how you have to handle being a backup in this league.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stefanksi Asserted Having Limited QBs on the Final Roster<\/h3>\n

All that said, there might not be as many quarterbacks competing for the backup position by the time Week 1 rolls around. Stefanski has praised all his QBs throughout the offseason, but he might not be keeping all of them around<\/a> because of roster restrictions.<\/p>\n

“I don\u2019t think that\u2019s possible nor realistic<\/a>. When it comes to every position, everything\u2019s up for determination over the next couple days.\u201d<\/p>\n

Only time will tell which QB will fall prey to the trade rumors.<\/p>\n
