Selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Kansas State product failed to justify his draft capital through his first two years in the league. Since joining the team, the edge defender has started in just three of a possible 34 games while recording three sacks, 41 tackles, eight tackles-for-loss, and 14 quarterback hits.

This hamstring injury will cost Felix Anudike-Uzomah the 2025 season, which means he’ll only have one more year to prove himself before his rookie contract comes to an end. Perhaps he can prove himself during next year’s training camp, but all signs are pointing towards a release before Week 1 of next year.

Jul 22, 2025; St. Joseph, MO, USA; Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Fabien Lovett Sr. (96) and defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah (91) stretch out during training camp at Missouri Western State University. Mandatory Credit: Denny Medley-Imagn Images

Felix Anudike-Uzomah May Have Played His Final Game With The Chiefs

Anudike-Uzomah has exclusively been a role player since entering the league, and nothing about his professional tape suggests he could improve with increased playing time. Last year, he finished the season with a 61.2 PFF grade, the 70th-best mark out of 119 eligible players. He was even worse as a rookie, finishing with a disappointing 53.4 PFF grade.

Following his injury, Felix Anudike-Uzomah will enter the final year of his contract carrying a $3.76 million cap hit. This is a reasonable price for a backup edge defender, but the Chiefs might not be willing to pay it. Kansas City has one of the most talented rosters in the league, and retaining all that high-level ability isn’t easy. They need as much salary cap space as they can get, and releasing Uzomah next year will clear over $2.3 million in spending money. Unless Anudike-Uzomah shows considerable improvement in the next offseason, he probably won’t make the team.

Main Photo: Mark J.
