After his visit with the Miami Dolphins, former New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams could finally sign with an NFL team before the 2025 regular season. According to reports<\/a>, the Dolphins brought in the running back for a visit this week, but this probably won’t be the only team that might be targeting the backfield piece for depth. Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the former BYU product spent the past two seasons with the New Orleans Saints, but he hasn’t been able to be the most productive running back out on the field, serving as the backup for standout Alvin Kamara<\/a>. After having one of the most disastrous campaigns in the league, it was time for the Saints to move on, especially since they’re building a new regime under a new head coach, Kellen Moore.<\/p>\n

Williams isn’t the greatest available free agent running back in the world, but he has a few solid years to be a rotating piece in the backfield. Williams is getting interest from the Chicago Bears as well, but he’s three years out from having one of his best careers with the Detroit Lions. The running back will hope to reignite his career elsewhere with a team that will give him another shot. He won’t sign a long-term contract, but a one-year deal minimum might suit the running back best.<\/p>\n

However, other teams could intervene in the recent visits and snag him before the 2025 campaign starts.<\/p>\n

Saving Dallas’ Run Game<\/h3>\n

Despite getting a handful of running backs in free agency like Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders<\/a>, the Dallas Cowboys took a chance and drafted Jaydon Blue<\/a>, who will likely win the starting job. However, it hasn’t been panning how as the Cowboys were hoping, as the team still has question marks in the backfield unit. Dallas needs someone who can be consistent, and even though Jamaal Williams isn’t the type to start anymore, he could help Sanders and Javonte Williams proceed by rotating the snaps.<\/p>\n

Blue isn’t going to run the entire time for one singular season, and they can’t afford to let Javonte Williams and Sanders run out of gas. Jamaal Williams might be past his prime, but if he can provide some type of gas to boost the running back unit, he could help this run game in the best way possible.<\/p>\n

More Firepower for Harbaugh’s Run<\/h3>\n

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers will likely be running the football more often after signing Najee Harris<\/a> and drafting Omarion Hampton<\/a>, who are two heavyweights that can be efficient to run over potential defenders. However, Williams isn’t the type to do this, but he could be useful in finding him in short slant routes or to move the chains. Harbaugh wants a physical, old-school run game, but he probably won’t turn down the idea of getting Williams a part of the mix.
