I was lucky to tag along with <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/herbertshypeman\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a friend of mine<\/a> and attend. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This practice was unpadded and quite short compared to the last practice I attended. That said, plenty of noteworthy storylines appeared.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Chargers Training Camp Feature High Octane Offense From Underrated Playmakers<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In an unpadded not-so-physical practice, it is expected for the offense to dominate. While the defense had its moments, from my standpoint, it seemed the offense got the best of them.\u00a0<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<h3><b>1. Tyler Conklin Could Be In For A Major Season<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tyler Conklin, throughout the entire Chargers training camp practice today, was cooking Corners, Safeties and Linebackers. He was instrumental as a short-yardage option for Justin Herbert throughout the entire day. Conklin showcased his sure-handedness and route-running prowess and is now making his case as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2025\/06\/28\/cbs-names-4-chargers-in-top-100-players-of-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">number-two option behind Ladd McConkey<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Haven&#39;t been posting them all, but Tyler Conklin has been eating on underneath routes today \u26a1\u26a1 <a  href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gCbR1ycYOm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/gCbR1ycYOm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Nate Gosney (@NateGosney) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NateGosney\/status\/1953925475585470569?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">August 8, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This trust and early rapport between new addition Conklin and Herbert should be <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2025\/05\/16\/predicting-the-stats-for-all-the-chargers-2025-free-agent-signings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">a big tell for what is to come during the 2025 season.<\/a><\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<h3><b>2. Tre Harris: Up &amp; Down Day<\/b><b><\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2025\/05\/10\/predicting-the-statlines-for-the-chargers-2025-draft-class\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Chargers invested their 55th overall pick in Tre Harris<\/a> to help bolster this weak receiver room. While the early returns are unclear, today proved to be the player they saw when watching the Ole Miss tape, but coupled with the expected rookie mistakes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harris was unable to haul in a deep pass from Herbert, as it was just off his fingertips. This mishandling was disappointing, considering <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NateGosney\/status\/1953920623136452922\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">he also had another drop that led to an interception.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Justin Herbert incomplete to Tre Harris, so close! \u26a1 <a  href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RbyMroB1s6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/RbyMroB1s6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Nate Gosney (@NateGosney) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NateGosney\/status\/1953923173625606661?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">August 8, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, this drop was balanced out with a long touchdown catch on the same sideline, showing his ball tracking and hand-eye coordination. Undrafted Rookie Receivers Show Promise\u00a0<\/b><b><\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2025\/06\/07\/what-is-the-most-competitive-position-group-on-the-chargers-roster\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Both Daleveon Campbell and Luke Grimm have had their camps of fandom<\/a> as the annual Chargers preseason receiver who impresses enough to make an intriguing case onto the final 53-man roster. Think <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BandMi00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Bandy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2024\/08\/28\/chargers-preseason-star-makes-the-final-53-man-roster\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Simi Fehoko<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/ScotAr00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Artavis Scott<\/a>, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grimm has yet to make a real impact this training camp and preseason due to injury, but his college highlight film and positional versatility allowed for Chargers fans to be on board with who he can be in the NFL early in the process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That said, he was able to handle plenty of kick and punt returns, giving the coaching staff the notion he is more than capable of doing so if called upon. That said, today was an \u201cup\u201d day for the physically imposing receiver out of South Carolina. Did Jim Harbaugh Change His Mind\u2026 Again<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zion Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NateGosney\/status\/1953921740016631994\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">was seen snapping during seven on seven drills<\/a>. This comes after <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/alexinsdorf99\/status\/1952446658098364662?t=LmF0fFsMK5LHfeeI1VK1mg&amp;s=19\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harbaugh calls Johnson the starting Left Guard and Bradley Bozeman the starting Center, deeming the competition practically over.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is this another case of Harbaugh misleading the media? Or just more \u201ccross-training\u201d for Johnson, even if he was practically ruled out of the starting Center race?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Only time will tell what the answer is. This up-and-coming preseason game, coupled with more Chargers training camp practices, will lead to the finale of this experiment.<\/p>\n<h3><b><\/b><b>5. Chargers Found Another Tony Jefferson?\u00a0<\/b><b><\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HineNy00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nyheim Miller-Hines<\/a> spent almost an hour after practice returning punts, then signing fans&#8217; memorabilia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During his time signing memorabilia, I asked Miller-Hines what his time with Philip Rivers was like. His response was: \u201cHe was awesome, man. I&#8217;m from North Carolina, so it was special, man.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/philip-rivers-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rivers played at North Carolina State.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also followed up with \u201cthat was the best year of my career, so that helps.\u201d Another fan said, \u201cThis year will top that,\u201d with Miller-Hines responding, \u201cBook it!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Late Chargers training camp-cycle addition, Miller-Hines is quickly becoming a fan favorite and a guy who can really make a push to make this roster, or a guy who can have a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2024\/08\/25\/tony-jefferson-comes-out-of-retirement-and-dominates-the-preseason\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Tony Jefferson-like season<\/a>, where he&#8217;s up and down the practice squad and 53-man roster playing valuable ball down the stretch of the long NFL season.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Final Miscellaneous Notes From Chargers Exclusive Training Camp:\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rookie Safety, RJ Mickens, had an impressive interception due to the aforementioned Tre Harris drop<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joe Alt &amp; Trey Pipkins spent time after practice getting themselves ready for their newfound positions &amp; importance<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Denzel Perryman, when asked if he was playing this coming preseason game, said, \u201cNot sure yet, but I&#8217;d like a couple of plays to get some aggression out\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Former Chargers receiver, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/O\/OsgoKa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kassim Osgood<\/a>, was seen at practice, signing autographs and spending time with the team\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Main Image: \u00a0Kirby Lee-Imagn Images<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Chargers held a \u201cprivate\u201d Chargers training camp practice for season ticket holders on August 8.
