After receiving good news about quarterback Justin Fields, the New York Jets are dealing with other injury concerns as well. Fortunately, despite concerns, they don’t seem to be problematic long-term. Rookie head coach Aaron Glenn is taking the precautionary route, especially with someone as valuable as Quinnen Williams. The Jets star defensive tackle suffered a calf strain on Thursday. To avoid further complications, Glenn and the staff decided to rest Williams for just under two weeks to manage it. In addition, left guard John Simpson is also taking the same route, managing a back injury and will miss up to two weeks. While fans will be concerned, Aaron Glenn spoke with the press and believes the injuries aren’t serious. Both men are expected to make full recoveries by week one.

Injury updates from Coach Glenn: pic.twitter.com/AH9Q4Zl7yq

— New York Jets (@nyjets) August 1, 2025

Jets Star Quinnen Williams Out 1-2 Weeks With Strained Calf

NFL Training Camp is the most important time of the preseason. New coaching regime and acclimating players to schemes are vital for a team’s season-long success. As players get back into the grind of the regular season, occasionally, some bodies need time to get acclimated to the wear and tear. In his first run as a head coach, Aaron Glenn is experiencing that now in his return with the Jets.

Oct 31, 2024; East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA; Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Unfortunately, the team has been experiencing the injury bug early in camp. It started when quarterback Justin Fields suffered a dislocated toe that many initially speculated could end his season, which turned out to be minor. Now, their star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is managing a calf strain. The three-time Pro Bowler suffered the injury on Thursday.

Believed to be Non-Severe/Jets Taking Precautionary Measures

Thankfully, the injury shouldn’t impact him long-term. Despite the fear of long-term damage, Williams managed a calf strain on the same leg back in 2022 and only missed a single game. While pessimism would rear its head, Jets fans should feel fortunate Quinnen Williams’ injury isn’t more severe. Williams is expected to have a big season in Coach Glenn’s 4-2 base defense. Williams finished four of the last five seasons with over six sacks a season. The defensive tackle should also benefit from the return of ex-Pro Bowl defensive end Jermaine Johnson, who suffered a torn Achilles in a Week 2 win over the Tennessee Titans last season.

Left Guard John Simpson is managing a back injury as well.

In addition, Quinnen Williams isn’t the only starter managing an injury this week. Standout left guard John Simpson will miss up to two weeks as well as he heals from a back injury. Simpson was a mainstay on the starting offensive line last year, appearing in all 17 games for the team. The veteran left guard is entering his second season with the team after signing a two-year deal last offseason, after spending two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens previously. With an increased emphasis on running the ball in 2025, the Jets will need Simpson healthy and injury-free to help Breece Hall and the running back room thrive.

Main Photo: [John Jones] – USA Today Sports

A calf injury will sideline New York Jets star Quinnen Williams for two weeks.
