The Kansas City Chiefs selected former Ohio State Buckeyes offensive lineman Josh Simmons<\/a> with the No. 32 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft<\/a>, and they are already seeing a positive return on their investment.<\/p>\n

Simmons is coming off an injury-shortened final college season.\u00a0 However, he has shown no lingering ill effects during training camp, instead thriving while protecting Patrick Mahomes<\/a>\u2019 blindside.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust the fact that, not only does he look the part, [but] there is no brace, there\u2019s no leg compression, there\u2019s no \u2018Oh, let\u2019s just ease them into this.\u2019 No, it\u2019s over,\u201d ESPN\u2019s Nate Taylor said on the \u201cOnly Weird Games<\/a>\u201d podcast on July 29. \u201cJust to remind you all how quickly this has progressed, Day 0 was Sunday, July 20th. We didn\u2019t know anything at that point. The biggest thing we tried to find out that day as a collective group of reporters is, \u2018Is Josh Simmons going to participate? And then, \u2018If so, what do you anticipate his level of participation being?<\/p>\n

\u201cIn a matter of nine days, no one on this team is discussing Josh Simmons as a possibility. They\u2019re discussing him as a certainty. It took nine days. There\u2019s no rotating. There\u2019s no competition.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taylor referenced reps between Simmons and rookie third-round defensive end Ashton Gillotte<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gillotte was \u201ctrying so hard\u201d to get around Simmons, but \u201cthey\u2019re just not in the same class<\/a>,\u201d Taylor said. On another rep the following day, Gillotte tried to set the edge.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was no edge. He was blown off the ball to the point where he\u2019s like, \u2018Come on, man.\u2019<\/p>\n

And this is critical now, because I think this is what Trey Smith<\/a> is trying to get Kingsley Suamataia<\/a> out to get his mindset of like, \u2018No, who cares if the refs are here? They\u2019re not gonna call it every time. So mush him. Continue to mush him.\u2019 They ain\u2019t even got to teach that to Josh Simmons no more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simmons and Gilotte would end up getting into a minor scuffle after the whistle at one point.<\/p>\n
