Rice must serve out a jail sentence stemming from his <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2024\/04\/22\/schefter-chiefs-rice-suspension-draft-veach\/\" target=\"_self\">multi-car crash<\/a> in Dallas, Texas, in 2024. Rice issued a statement in the aftermath of the ruling, which also includes a five-year probation.<\/p>\n<h2>Chiefs WR Rashee Rice Breaks Silence After Receiving Jail Sentence<\/h2>\n<h3>Chiefs Will Be Without Rashee Rice at Some Point<\/h3>\n<p>He showed contrition in his first comments on the matter since it occurred.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast March, I was involved in a high-speed accident in Dallas. There have been a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damages that my actions caused, and I will continue working within my means to make sure that everyone impacted will be made whole. I urge everyone to mind the speed limit, drive safe and drive smart,\u201d Rice said in the statement on July 17 via attorney Royce West.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast and certainly not least, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jessenewell\/status\/1945884501789278488\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">I am profoundly sorry<\/a> for the physical damages to person and property. I fully apologize for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges against him.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Chiefs?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#Chiefs<\/a> WR Rashee Rice has pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges and has received his sentence as part of a negotiated deal. His jail time will run concurrently with his probation.<\/p>\n<p>Rice faces additional discipline from the NFL, which typically waits for the legal process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cESPN sources: A Dallas County judge just sentenced Chiefs WR Rashee Rice to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AdamSchefter\/status\/1945876698660294713\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">five years probation and 30 days of jail time<\/a> that can be served during those five years stemming [from] his role in a multi-car crash in Dallas during the 2024 offseason,\u201d ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter reported on X on July 17.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow that the judge has ruled, the NFL can expedite its disciplinary process and Rice is likely to receive a multi-game suspension.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rice was also the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/40190812\/police-man-want-rashee-rice-charged-alleged-assault\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">subject of an ongoing investigation<\/a> into an assault in Dallas. Mandatory Credit: Denny Medley-Imagn Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cTheodore \u2018Teddy\u2019 Knox, who was a student-athlete on Southern Methodist University&#8217;s football team, was driving a Corvette and Rice was in a Lamborghini on March 30, 2024,\u201d CBS News wrote. \u201cBoth were speeding in the far-left lane of North Central Expressway near University Boulevard when the Lamborghini hit the center median wall, officials said, which caused four other vehicles to collide with each other.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRice\u2019s arrest affidavit, obtained by CBS News Texas, stated he was driving at a rate of 119 mph before crashing. Knox was driving at a rate of 91 mph prior to the crash. The posted speed limit on US 75 is 70 mph.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This will cost Rice financially, too.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Kansas City may also push for signing bonus payback from Rashee Rice, which would come at a $23,941 per week loss.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Spotrac (@spotrac) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/spotrac\/status\/1945889955286315419?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">July 17, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>There is somewhat of a silver lining in all of this for Rice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRashee Rice also received deferred adjudication,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AdamSchefter\/status\/1945877753993019897\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Schefter reported<\/a> in a follow-up post. \u201cIf he completes his probation successfully, the case will be dismissed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rice was the No. 55 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. He missed all but four games in 2024 with a torn ACL. He was set to be part of a loaded Chiefs wide receiver room that includes 2023 second-round pick <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2024\/07\/17\/chiefs-worthy-reacts-mahomes-message-training-camp\/\" target=\"_self\">Xavier Worthy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Chiefs have navigated Rice\u2019s absence before<\/p>\n<p>They should be okay as long as <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2025\/07\/15\/chiefs-mahomes-reaction-smith-contract-extension\/\" target=\"_self\">Patrick Mahomes<\/a> is under center and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2025\/03\/21\/andy-reid-chiefs-offensive-innovation-success\/\" target=\"_self\">Andy Reid<\/a> is their head coach. However, they cannot ignore the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2025\/06\/21\/report-chiefs-rashee-rice-suspension-timeline-revealed\/\" target=\"_self\">string of incidents around Rice<\/a>.
