How badly did the schedule makers trample Tennessee in 2025? Tennessee returns to the scene of the crime where their last drafted “franchise savior” effectively ended his starting career. Interestingly, the Titans have won only once in the Mile High City out of three tries since they moved to Nashville. The record in Denver isn’t a good omen for Tennessee, as they have beaten the Broncos only nine times in 21 trips throughout history.

After battling the loaded and tough, talented Denver defense, Tennessee returns home to pay homage to Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay. The schedule makers did the Titans a solid by having them twice at home to begin the season, at least. Los Angeles and Tennessee could share notes on the Texans while the Rams are in Nashville since they play Houston in Week 1. The Rams face the Eagles after Tennessee, so that they could look ahead slightly to the Super Bowl champions.

An inter-division matchup awaits, with a home date against the Titans’ owners (in the way that Aaron Rodgers owns the Bears), the Colts. Indianapolis needs a big season to avoid losing people’s jobs. To finish out a rough September against playoff or playoff-adjacent teams, they take on a rebuilt Houston Texans team that won the division last season. Tennessee’s defense must take advantage of a Houston offensive line that’s still retooling after several departures. Schedule-wise, Tennessee gets a break as the Texans face Baltimore the following week. It’s possible that the Titans could go winless in September. The best-case scenario is achieving a .500 record.

Returning With A Vengeance

Week 7: vs. New England Patriots

Former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel returns with a cavalcade of former Titans turned Patriots, including Harold Landry, seeking revenge on the franchise that fired him. The Patriots lost a heartbreaking duel to Tennessee last season in overtime. If the Titans start the 2025 season slowly out of the gates and lose this game, there’s a chance that owner Amy Adams Strunk will relieve head coach Brian Callahan of his duties. She has a history of firing coaches and executives after losses that make her and the team look bad. Both teams are scheduled to take on teams with new passers the week prior, so there’s no schedule advantage.

Cooking For The Home Stretch

Week 9: vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Week 11: vs. Houston Texans

Week 12: vs. Seattle Seahawks

Week 13: vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

The schedule makers cut Tennessee some slack during November, allowing them to spend the month at home after playing on the road five times out of the first eight weeks. Tennessee gets to spend Thanksgiving at home for the first time in a while. These four opponents may have to come to Nashville, but they are not easy outs by any stretch of the imagination. The Titans are at a scheduling disadvantage in Week 9 as the Chargers have a 10-day layoff after playing Thursday night in Week 8. Like Houston in September, Los Angeles could be caught looking ahead to a pivotal showdown with the Steelers in Week 10.

After the Week 10 bye, Tennessee renews its eternal blood feud with Houston with a schedule advantage that works in their favor for a change. The Texans will host the AFC powerhouse Buffalo Bills the following Thursday night. Brian Callahan’s men present the easiest challenge of the four-game stretch for Houston as they face Buffalo, Indianapolis, and Kansas City afterwards.

Seattle and Jacksonville present a unique opportunity for Tennessee, as both have rough patches on their schedules. The Seahawks play Tennessee in the middle of a stretch that features road dates against Washington and LAR while hosting Arizona and Minnesota. Jacksonville’s November is equally daunting, with dates against Vegas, Houston, the Chargers, and Arizona. The Titans could manage a winning November at Nissan Stadium if the football gods allow them to.

A December To Not Remember

Week 14: AWAY @ Cleveland

Week 15: AWAY @ San Francisco

Week 16: vs. Kansas City

Week 17: vs. New Orleans

Another schedule quirk in December, when the schedule makers decided to trample the Titans, is that the 49ers will travel to Cleveland in Week 13. December could be forgettable for Tennessee, depending on how the prior months go. The Browns game could go either way, as they might also be breaking in a rookie quarterback. Cleveland has an abysmally torturous road to end the season with Chicago, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati looming after Tennessee.

The only “surefire” loss before Christmas is the home contest against the almighty Chiefs. Kansas City might need this game more than Tennessee, as they play four days later on Christmas Day against their hated rival, Denver. Maybe as parting Christmas gifts, the two teams can exchange their notes on the Broncos. San Francisco and their newly enriched quarterback host Tennessee on their way to Indianapolis the following week. The 49ers have only one division game in December when the league traditionally stacks them to create more intrigue.

Despite the optimism surrounding their signal callers, New Orleans is expected to be a rebuilding organization. The Saints finish the 2025 season on the road with contests against Tennessee and Atlanta. Dennard Wilson’s defense must have their antennas up against Kellen Moore’s offensive wizardry. Despite the best efforts of the schedule makers to trample Tennessee, December could set up a fruitful 2026.

Main Image: Steve Roberts – USA Today Sports

How did the NFL schedule makers treat the Titans in 2025?
