As a standout receiver and cornerback he helped Edgewater reach the State Championship in 2020, and was a four-star recruit, and top-250 recruit in the 2021 recruiting class. Hill committed to Arizona State and appeared in 11 games his freshman season. He transferred to Nebraska in 2022 and switched from cornerback to wide receiver midway through the 2022 season. Although he didn’t see much playing time at receiver, he did become the team’s primary kick returner. Hill went back to defense in 2023 and recorded four interceptions and nine pass deflections in 12 games. He earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors. Hill started in seven games in 2024 but battled through a foot injury for most of the season.

Strengths:

Hill is a highly competitive corner who plays tough and physical football. He has good size, a strong frame, and elite length at the position with a nearly 33-inch arm length. Hill excels in zone coverage where he displays great awareness and route recognition. He has incredible instincts and is able to read the quarterback’s eyes well and quickly react. His play recognition and instincts pair well with his impressive ball skills. As a former receiver, Hill has good hands and he is aggressive attacking the football.

In run support, Hill has the size, strength and demeanor needed to be an impact player. Hill has a big tackle radius and is a strong and consistent tackler who does a good job making tackles in space, and preventing extra yards on the ground. He has special teams experience, including 22 kick returns during his college career.

Weaknesses:

Hill dealt with plantar fasciitis in 2024, and had an underwhelming season in 2024 compared to his performance in 2023. Hill is not as strong in man coverage as he is in zone coverage. He shows some hip tightness and doesn’t have great short area quickness.

There are also concerns about his long speed and ability to stay with faster receivers vertically down the field. Hill does not have a ton of starting experience at cornerback, with only one full season as a starting cornerback. Hill has an inconsistent technique and occasionally opens his hips too early.

Potential Team Fits:

Green Bay Packers

Las Vegas Raiders

Pittsburgh Steelers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

NFL Projection:

Hill shows a lot of promise with his zone coverage ability, awareness, instincts, and ball skills. He also has the height, weight, frame, and length needed to be a starting cornerback in the NFL. However, he will need to improve his consistency, technique, and man coverage ability at the next level. Hill projects best in a zone-heavy scheme and is likely a backup cornerback and special teams player early in his career. If he develops well, Hill has the decent upside and potential to grow into a starting-caliber cornerback.

Prospect Grade:

Fifth Round

Main Image: Dylan Widger – USA Today Sports

Tommi Hill scouting report.
