He caught 28 touchdowns in his freshman and sophomore seasons in high school before moving to quarterback, where he won the Georgia Class 4A player of the year and Region 5-AAAA player of the year. Hudson was a four-star recruit and committed to Auburn. In his sophomore season with the Tigers, he led the team with 44 receptions and 580 receiving yards. He transferred to UCF in 2022 and made 10 starts in his first season with the team. In 2023, he had his best statistical season with 900 receiving yards and earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors. In his final season with UCF, he started all 12 games and led the team in receiving yards.

Strengths:

Hudson is an incredible route runner, especially on deep routes down the field. He has one of the best release packages in this year’s draft class with quick feet and refined release technique. Hudson does a great job of getting open against press coverage. He is a nuanced route runner who makes sharp cuts and is quick in and out of his breaks. Hudson tempos his routes well and knows how to manipulate defensive leverage to create separation. He is especially good as a route runner vertically down the field where he consistently creates separation from defenders to make big plays.

As a catcher of the football, Hudson shows the ability to make catches away from his frame. Hudson tracks the ball well and does a great job at high-pointing the football. There are a lot of difficult catches Hudson makes on film, and his ability to track the ball, high point the football, and make tough catches compliments his vertical route running ability well as an explosive playmaker downfield.

Weaknesses:

Hudson has had inconsistent hands and a poor catch percentage throughout his career. He is prone to some concentration drops. Hudson is an average athlete who lacks explosiveness and athletic upside. He has underwhelming long speed for someone who was such a dangerous deep-ball threat in college, and it could limit his ability as a big-play threat in the NFL against better and faster defensive backs.

Hudson is not much of a threat after the catch. He is not an elusive runner in the open field and doesn’t have great strength and balance as a runner. Hudson is an older prospect and had consistently good, but never elite, production during his five-year college career.

Potential Team Fits:

Atlanta Falcons

Baltimore Ravens

Buffalo Bills

NFL Projection:

Hudson’s route running and ability to consistently get open against press coverage makes him an intriguing NFL prospect and gives him a decent floor as a prospect. He will need to truly excel as a route runner to make up for his lack of top-level speed at the next level, and he has to become more consistent as a pass catcher. If Hudson can build on his already impressive route running ability and become a more consistent pass catcher, he has the potential to be a really good WR3 on an NFL team.

Prospect Grade:

Late Fourth Round

Main Photo: [Kirby Lee] – USA Today Sports

Kobe Hudson scouting report.
