He was a four-star recruit and the No. 5 ranked recruit in the state of Utah in his recruiting class. Bassa committed to Oregon and transitioned from safety to linebacker, starting seven games at the position as a freshman. As a sophomore, he played in all 13 games and made nine starts, finishing second on the team in tackles with 62. He broke out as a star on the Oregon defense his junior season, helping the Ducks finish as a top-10 scoring defense and earning Second Team All-Pac-12 honors. In his senior season, he helped Oregon win a Big Ten Championship and finish an undefeated regular season, earning Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors.

Strengths:

Bassa has tremendous coverage ability and is one of the best man coverage linebackers in this year’s draft class. He has great movement skills, fluid hips, and change-of-direction speed to cover running backs, tight ends, and slot receivers. In zone coverage, Bassa has good awareness and reads the quarterback’s eyes well. Bassa is a very rangy linebacker who is consistently near the football. He has good sideline-to-sideline speed and plays with a high motor. As a pass rusher, Bassa is a great blitzer with a good burst.

Bassa is an experienced, high-IQ player with good communication and leadership skills. He wore the green dot as the communicator of the defense for Oregon in 2024 and wore the green dot for the National Team at the Senior Bowl. He also has a good amount of special teams experience.

Weaknesses:

Bassa is a bit undersized and has some play strength concerns. Bassa struggles to shed blockers and can get overpowered in the run game. He also lacks ideal arm length, with just over 31 inches, which puts him in the 22nd percentile for linebackers, according to MockDraftable.

Bassa is inconsistent as a run defender. He can be hesitant in diagnosing runs and currently lacks high-level instincts. He can also be taken out of plays by linemen in the run game, and he occasionally takes bad angles.

Potential Team Fits:

Las Vegas Raiders

Minnesota Vikings

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

NFL Projection:

Bassa is a scheme-versatile player with good experience as a college prospect and potentially adds leadership and special teams value to an NFL team. He will need to improve his play strength and continue to develop as a run defender to be a consistent every-down impact linebacker in the NFL. However, with his movement skills, sideline-to-sideline range, communication skills, and coverage ability, he can develop into a quality coverage linebacker in the NFL.

Prospect Grade:

Late Third Round

Main Photo: Vasha Hunt-Imagn Images

Jeffrey Bassa scouting report.
