Grant did not begin playing football until his junior year of high school and was an unranked recruit. He committed to playing football at the College of William & Mary, where he was a backup during his true freshman season but earned five starts at left tackle as a redshirt freshman. Grant broke out as a standout player in 2022, not allowing a sack all season and earning First Team All-CAA honors. He was a First Team FCS All-American in 2023, allowing just one sack the entire season. He finished his college career in 2024 as a Payton Award Finalist and as a First Team FCS All-American for the second time in his career.

Strengths:

Grant is a great athlete. Appeared on Bruce Feldman’s 2024 Freaks List and has incredible movement skills. Grant excels as a zone run blocker as a natural mover in space who is quick and light on his feet. He is explosive out of his stance and climbs to the second level with great quickness. On the second level, he shows good timing and does a great job taking linebackers out of plays.

Grant also has great length, with nearly 35-inch arm length, ranking in the top 5 for arm length in this year’s offensive line draft class. He was very consistent in pass protection throughout his college career and has good mirror skills. He also has a strong wrestling background, which is always a big plus for offensive line prospects. Grant was a team captain for William & Mary in 2024 and was a finalist for the Wells Fargo Advisors Humanitarian Award.

Weaknesses:

While Grant has done a good job increasing his strength and weight throughout his college career, he is still an undersized offensive tackle. Grant needs to continue to improve his upper body strength at the next level. He also plays with an inconsistent pad level. With his size, play strength, and high pad level, more powerful pass rushers could give Grant some problems in the NFL.

Grant also has inconsistent hand technique. His hands get too wide at times, and he needs to improve his punch timing. He had some issues with penalties, recording 19 penalties during his college career. While Grant dominated at the FCS level, it will still be a big jump in the level of competition from the FCS to the NFL.

Potential Team Fits:

Philadelphia Eagles

Miami Dolphins

San Francisco 49ers

NFL Projection:

Grant has incredible athletic potential. He will be making a big jump in the level of competition. still needs to improve his play strength and refine some technique issues, but he has the potential to develop into a starting-level tackle in the NFL. His length, athleticism, and movement skills are great. Grant is best suited to maximize his skill set in a zone-heavy run scheme.

Prospect Grade:

Late Third Round

Main Photo: Jacob Musselman-Imagn Images

Charles Grant’s scouting report.
