The 49ers have had back to back losing seasons. In 2016 the 49ers finished 2-14 and forth in their division. The 49ers struggled on offense and defense throughout the season. Below is the San Francisco 49ers 2016 fantasy football recap.

San Francisco 49ers 2016 Fantasy Football Recap

Quarterback

The San Francisco 49ers started off their season with veteran quarterback Blaine Gabbert as they’re starting quarterback. He would play in five games and would throw for 925 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions. He would lose his job and be bench for the rest of the season in week six. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick took over for the 49ers at quarterback in week six and was a decent option for fantasy owners. He threw for 2241 yards with 16 touchdowns and seven turnovers interceptions. He also ran the ball for 448 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Kaepernick finished the season is the 25th ranked quarterback in fantasy. He finished the season with 200 fantasy points he averaging 18 fantasy points per game. Kaepernick is no longer with the San Francisco 49ers and they have signed veteran Brian Hoyer who is projected to be the starting quarterback. With the depth at the quarterback position in fantasy football this season owner should look elsewhere for their starting quarterback in the upcoming season.

Running Back

Running back Carlos Hyde has struggled with injuries throughout his young career. Last season was no different as hide dealt with several injuries that caused him to miss time throughout the season. Overall Hyde had a successful 2016 season as he finished with 1,151 total yards and nine total touchdowns. He finished with 165 fantasy points which ranked him as the 14th best running back in fantasy last season. He averaged just around 10 fantasy points per game when he played. Hyde is a solid running back two next season and with the new head coach in San Francisco Kyle Shanahan he should see plenty of opportunities and could be a draft a bargain in the fourth or fifth rounds of next year’s draft.

Wide Receiver

The San Francisco 49ers have one of the weaker wide receiver corps in the NFL. There leading receiver was Jeremy Kerley with 64 receptions for 667 yards and only three touchdowns. He finished with 84 fantasy points and averaged five fantasy points per game. There next leading receiver was Quinton Patton with 37 receptions for 408 yards and zero touchdowns. He totaled only 40 fantasy points. In the off season they signed veteran Pierre Garcon who will most likely be the leading receiver for the 49ers next season.

Tight End

The 49ers used two tight ends last season and both of them had minimal success. The leading tight end was Vance McDonald with 24 receptions for 391 yards and four touchdowns. He totaled 63 fantasy points and was a boom or a bust throughout the season. The next leading tight end was Garrett Celek with 29 receptions for 350 yards and three touchdowns. He totaled 53 fantasy points and was also inconsistent in his production. Neither tight end are much more than a bye week and match up play next season.

Kicker

Phil Dawson is one of the oldest players in the league and probably one of the best kickers in NFL history. Last season he made 18 of 21 field goals and made 33 extra points. He totaled 93 fantasy points and finished the as the 24th ranked kicker. Dawson signed with the Arizona Cardinals in the off-season. He is worth keeping an eye on in fantasy next season.

Defense

The 49ers defense is not the power house it was a few years ago. In 2016 or was one of the defenses that fantasy owners targeted especially for running backs. They finished the season with 23 fantasy points and was the 31st ranked defense in fantasy football. With the 49ers playing in a tough division there defense is not much more then a match up play next season.

The 49ers have had back to back rough seasons finishing with less than five wins each season. However they are heading in the right direction with there new coach Kyle Shanahan. If they can build through the draft and free agency the 49ers could be a solid team in a few years. In the mean time it might be a rough few season for 49ers fans. Also be a down year in regards to there fantasy production.

Main Photo:

Embed from Getty Images

Below is the San Francisco 49ers 2016 fantasy football recap.
