Ferguson was a four-star tight end recruit<\/a> from Heritage High School in Littleton, Colo. He committed to Oregon, where he recorded two receiving touchdowns his freshman season. In his sophomore season, he finished second on the team in receiving touchdowns with five, along with 391 receiving yards. Ferguson elevated his game in his junior season, finishing the season with First Team All-Pac-12 honors, helping Oregon become the second-highest-scoring offense in the country in 2023. In 2024, Ferguson set career highs in receptions and receiving yards with 43 receptions and 591 yards to earn Third Team All-Big Ten honors.<\/span><\/p>\n

Strengths:<\/h3>\n

Ferguson was a consistently productive player in Oregon\u2019s offense for four straight years. He is a fluid athlete with great straight-line speed, a quick release off the line of scrimmage, and the ability to create separation against man coverage. Ferguson has the ability to make big plays in the intermediate and deep parts of the field. He has good length and height, standing over 6-foot-5 giving him a big catch radius. Ferguson is also a good red zone target for quarterbacks. He can effectively box out defenders, has good body control, and is a reliable pass catcher who effectively high-points the football. <\/span><\/p>\n

Ferguson is a dependable security blanket for quarterbacks with strong hands and the ability to consistently catch the ball away from his frame. After the catch, Ferguson can pick up extra yards quickly with his long strides and great speed. He also offers special teams experience.<\/span><\/p>\n

Weaknesses:<\/h3>\n

Ferguson still has a lot of room to grow as a route runner. He ran a limited route tree at Oregon and needs to be sharper in and out of his breaks. Ferguson has good speed after the catch, but he lacks the ability to make defenders miss in open space and tends to go down too easily on first contact. He has good size, but just average play strength. Ferguson needs to be stronger at the catch point and be more aggressive attacking the football.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a blocker, Ferguson has inconsistent technique and struggles at the point of attack against stronger defenders. While Ferguson has great straight-line speed, he has just average change of direction speed and short-area quickness. He also struggles to create separation against physical coverage at the line of scrimmage.<\/span><\/p>\n

While Ferguson is not a strong blocker at this stage, at his size, if he could improve his play strength and technique, he has the potential to be a good blocker at the next level.
