Due to his length and power at the point of attack, he is a scheme-versatile piece on the defensive front. He profiles as a two-gap defensive tackle who may not collect high sack numbers. However, he is more than capable of collapsing the pocket and is a plus at stopping the run with his high football IQ.

Harmon was named a third-team All-Big Ten selection and an Associated Press second-team All-American selection in 2024. He recorded 45 tackles, 10 ½ tackles for loss, five sacks, four pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. He is a top 50 prospect according to NFL Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah, and he has Harmon selected with the No. 27 selection by the Baltimore Ravens in his latest mock draft.

Strengths

A prototypical blend of size, length, and power makes him difficult to move in the scrimmage.

Scheme and position flexibility; able to play a defensive end on a three-man front, a three-technique or two-gap defensive tackle in a four-man front, or even nose tackle.

A strong initial first punch enables him to stall the lineman’s attempts at blocking.

Excellent at reading run-blocking schemes and is able to react quickly.

Adept at collecting double teams to keep linebackers clean at the second level.

A quick-twitch athlete that sheds blocks well enough to penetrate into running lanes.

Strong arm over and rip moves when rushing the passer.

Weaknesses

The upper body carries excess weight that results in tightness in the hips.

Propensity to get caught behind lateral blocks.

Doesn’t always finish plays, specifically quarterback sacks of tackling running backs behind the line of scrimmage, due to lack of agility.

Sometimes plays with his pads too high.

Too linear with his rush and needs to work on his body control.

NFL Comparison: DaQuan Jones

Teams Who Have a Need at the Position: Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers.

Draft Projection: Late first round to early second round

Bottom Line on Derrick Harmon

Derrick Harmon is a versatile prospect who will be able to play anywhere along the defensive front and contribute right away.
