{"id":2236,"date":"2016-09-21T13:55:25","date_gmt":"2016-09-21T17:55:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/?p=2236"},"modified":"2016-09-21T14:10:23","modified_gmt":"2016-09-21T18:10:23","slug":"adrian-peterson-will-undergo-surgery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2016\/09\/21\/adrian-peterson-will-undergo-surgery\/","title":{"rendered":"Adrian Peterson Will Undergo Surgery, Out At Least 3-4 Months"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Minnesota Vikings<\/strong> All-Pro running back <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?search=Adrian+Peterson&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adrian Peterson<\/a><\/strong> will undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus that he suffered in Sunday night\u2019s victory over the <strong>Green Bay Packers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, Peterson hoped to forgo the operation in order to play in Week Three. However, after consulting with renowned physician <strong>Dr. James Andrews<\/strong>, who repaired his torn ACL in 2011, he opted for the procedure. Peterson could&#8217;ve had part of the meniscus\u00a0taken out, instead of the repair, which is a two to four week healing process.<\/p>\n<h2>Adrian Peterson Will Undergo Surgery, Out At Least 3-4 Months<\/h2>\n<p>According to <strong>ESPN<\/strong>\u2019s <strong>Josina Anderson<\/strong>, the 31-year-old tailback will have the surgery on Thursday morning for a \u201cbuckle handle tear\u201d in his meniscus. The minimum recovery time is between three to four months long, but can be longer than\u00a0six months.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Peterson has what is known as &quot;bucket handle tear.&quot; I&#39;m told that&#39;s a minm of 3-4 months out &amp; up 6months usually. After he tore his ACL in 2011, which is considered a worse injury, he returned the following season and rushed for a league-leading 2,097 yards.<\/p>\n<p>But, the ten-year-pro\u2019s comeback may not be with the Vikings.<\/p>\n<p>He has one more year on his contract and is owed $18 million. With two substantial knee injuries and him approaching 32 years old in March, the Vikings may consider releasing him. He isn\u2019t owed any more guaranteed money, so a release would clear $18 million off the salary cap.<\/p>\n<p>Also, before the injury, \u201cAll Day\u201d wasn\u2019t performing well, averaging just 1.6 yards per carry on 31 attempts.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to keep or release the seven-time Pro Bowler, will rest on the performances of backup\u2019s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/McKiJe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jerick McKinnon<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AsiaMa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Asiata<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Minnesota Vikings Backup Plan<\/h2>\n<p>Last season, McKinnon garnered 272 yards and two touchdowns on 52 carries and adding 21 receptions, while Asiata had 112 yards on 29 carries with 19 catches.<\/p>\n<p>Vikings head coach <strong>Mike Zimmer<\/strong> said he has tremendous confidence in both players.
