In free agency, the Indianapolis Colts addressed the cornerback and safety positions. But the team still needs to upgrade at tight end. Perhaps they could take Michigan\u2019s Colston Loveland in the 2025 NFL Draft. Jake Arthur of SI.com<\/a> pointed out that Loveland could be a realistic option since fellow tight end Tyler Warren<\/a> might not be available:<\/p>\n

\u201cWarren had been the exhaustive favorite to go to the Colts for much of the early draft process, and he’s still a common name mocked to the Colts. However, recently, there’s been a shift toward Loveland. This biggest reason appears to be that Warren is just unlikely to make it all the way to the 14th overall pick for the Colts unless they were to aggressively trade up to pursue him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Warren could be the perfect draft pick<\/a> for the Colts. He\u2019s undoubtedly the best tight-end prospect in this year\u2019s draft. But like Arthur stated, he\u2019s unlikely to be around when the Colts pick at No. 14 overall.<\/p>\n

It could be like last year. The Colts owned the 15th overall pick and many fans wanted tight end Brock Bowers<\/a>. Yet, the former Georgia star was taken 13th by the Las Vegas Raiders<\/a>. Maybe Coltson will be a star in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n

Indianapolis Colts Might Draft Michigan Tight End Colston Loveland<\/h2>\n

His Career to Date\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Colston Loveland starred at Gooding High School in Gooding, Idaho. He played tight end and linebacker during his senior season. That year, Loveland caught 62 passes for 968 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also rushed for 352 yards and four touchdowns. On defense, he recorded 57 combined tackles, 5.5 sacks and two interceptions.\u00a0<\/sup><\/p>\n

Loveland received offers from schools like Alabama, LSU, Auburn, and Utah. Yet, he chose to play college football at the University of Michigan. As a sophomore in 2023, he teamed with quarterback J.J. McCarthy and Co. to lead the Wolverines to a national championship<\/a>. He finished the season with 45 receptions for 649 yards and four touchdowns.\u00a0<\/sup><\/p>\n

In 2024, Loveland caught 56 passes for 582 yards and five touchdowns. He finished his collegiate career with a national championship, two Big Ten championships, All-American honors, and as Michigan\u2019s single-season record holder for catches by a tight end.<\/p>\n

Should the Colts Draft Him?<\/h3>\n

Last year, the Colts used four tight ends: Kylen Granson<\/a>, Drew Ogletree, Mo Alie-Cox, and Will Mallory. The unit combined for only 39 catches for 467 yards, and two touchdowns. Granson led the group with 14 receptions for 182 yards and no touchdowns.<\/p>\n

Granson left recently and signed<\/a> a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a>. Alie-Cox is a free agent and it\u2019s unclear whether he returns to Indianapolis this offseason. Indy\u2019s holdovers at tight end include Ogletree, Mallory, and Jelani Woods, who missed the past two seasons due to injury.<\/p>\n

With that said, the Colts need a playmaking tight end. If Tyler Warren is unavailable, selecting Colston Loveland makes sense as a consolation prize. Who\u2019s to say Loveland won\u2019t have a better career than Warren will? Just because he\u2019s predicted to be a better player, doesn\u2019t guarantee that he will.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Loveland is an elite athlete with great speed and explosiveness. He could serve as an offensive weapon for the Colts quarterback, whether it’s Anthony Richardson or Daniel Jones.<\/p>\n
