When he was nine years old, Mukuba moved to Austin, Texas. In Austin, Mukuba attended Lyndon B. Johnson High School, where he ran track and played both offense and defense for the football team. Mukuba was rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports. He received multiple offers but ultimately committed to play for Clemson.

In three seasons at Clemson, Mukuba played over 1,500 snaps. He totaled over 100 tackles and 11 pass deflections as a Tiger. After his junior year, Mukuba returned to Austin to play for the Texas Longhorns. There, he enjoyed his most productive season of his collegiate career. Mukuba had five interceptions, six pass deflections, and 57 tackles in 2024. He helped Texas advance to the semifinal of the College Football Playoff.

Strengths

At Texas, Andrew Mukuba showed excellent ball skills. With five interceptions in 2024, he has impressive ball production. While some of those interceptions came off of tipped passes, Mukuba shows the ability to track the ball well and react quickly when the ball is in the air. Mukuba’s speed allows him to cover large areas of the field as a deep safety.

Mukuba is quick to break on short routes. He is able to separate the receiver from the ball with well-timed hits. Mukuba closes on ball carriers quickly, often leading to tackles behind the line of scrimmage. He shows good hit power, both in the open field and in assisted tackles. Mukuba is able to weave through blockers, rarely allowing them to engage.

Weaknesses

Andrew Mukuba often goes for the ankles when tackling. He rarely drives his feet through a tackle. In the open field, Mukuba typically either attempts a big hit or dives for the ankles of the ball carrier. Mukuba is highly aggressive, which can lead to blown coverages at times. He bites on play action fakes more often than he should. At just 186 lbs, Mukuba is severely undersized for an NFL safety. He will need to put on significant weight to hold up against bigger receivers and tight ends.

Team Fits

Minnesota Vikings

Miami Dolphins

Carolina Panthers

NFL Projection

Andrew Mukuba is an athletic yet undersized safety prospect. His ball skills and quick burst give him the ability to make a game-changing play at any moment. NFL teams will be drawn in by his impressive ball production during his final collegiate season. In the NFL, Mukuba’s size will limit him to playing as a deep safety in zone coverage schemes. Many teams may be scared off by his small frame. The scouting report for Andrew Mukuba shows a third-round talent.

Main Photo Credit: Kyle Robertson/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

In a draft class full of talented defenders, Texas safety Andrew Mukuba stands out as an explosive athlete with impressive ball production.
