Metcalf Trade Cost Leaks – 3 Teams Could Meet Asking Price

Seattle Seahawks superstar wide receiver D.K. Metcalf has requested a trade, and while several teams are interested in his services, he won’t come cheap. A two-time Pro Bowler, Metcalf has recorded at least 900 yards every year since entering the league and is just one year removed from a 1,100-yard season. Blessed with elite physical traits and the ability to blow past defenses, the former second-round pick would be a welcome addition to any offense.

While the Seahawks are listening to D.K. Metcalf trade offers, ESPN’s Dianna Russini reports that Seattle wants a first- and third-round pick for his services. On top of that, Metcalf also wants a new contract that pays him $30 million per year.

REPORT: Seahawks Set High Price In D.K. Metcalf Trade Talks

Needless to say, this is a high price to pay for any non-quarterback. D.K. Metcalf is a great wide receiver, but the trade and contract demands are more in line with an elite player. Perhaps a team would be willing to do this for Ja’Marr Chase or Justin Jefferson, but it’s hard to envision anyone giving up that much for Metcalf.

Chances are, this report is just a negotiation tactic by Seattle. The team wants to maximize their return for Metcalf, and leaking this trade price forces teams to know they won’t send him away for cheap. This report might keep teams with minor interest from approaching the stand, but the following three teams could still make a move.

Possible Fits

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have tried to upgrade their wide receiver position for the better part of a year. While second-round pick Ladd McConkey looks like the real deal, the rest of the depth chart needs some help. Shortly after Metcalf originally requested a trade, reports across the league indicated the Chargers tried to acquire the big-bodied wideout at the 2024 trade deadline. While they couldn’t get the job done then, Jim Harbaugh’s squad could make a move now and get the ammunition to leapfrog the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West.

New England Patriots

Drake Maye performed remarkably well in 2024 despite being surrounded by the league’s worst supporting cast and coaching staff. While head coach Mike Vrabel should be a massive improvement on Jerod Mayo, the team still needs to add reliable weapons to get the most out of their franchise quarterback. The Patriots will not send the fourth-overall pick to Seattle for D.K. Metcalf, but they could be willing to trade their second-round pick. With over $128 million in cap space, they can easily afford to extend the wide receiver without impacting their ability to rebuild the offensive line.

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers have three promising young pass-catchers in Xavier Legette, Jalen Coker, and tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders. While these players showed signs of life as rookies, Carolina could use a proven option to pair with Bryce Young following his strong finish to the 2024 season. Just like the Patriots, it’s hard to envision Carolina giving up a top-10 pick for Metcalf’s services. However, if Seattle and Carolina can agree to a revised trade, this match makes all the sense in the world.

Main Photo: Jayne Kamin-Oncea – Imagn Images

The Seattle Seahawks are allowing D.K.
