In high school, he lived with former teammate Bo Nix due to unfortunate circumstances in his own family. Johnson was rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports coming out of high school, and he chose to attend Troy over offers from Arkansas State and others.

In his three seasons at Troy, Johnson totaled over 1,700 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He then transferred to Oregon to reunite with Bo Nix. In 2023, his first season with the Ducks, Johnson exploded onto the scene with over 1,000 receiving yards and ten touchdowns. Despite interest from NFL scouts, Johnson chose to return to Oregon for one more season. Though he saw a slight regression in his stats, Johnson was once again Oregon’s primary receiver in 2024.

Strengths

Tez Johnson is a refined receiver with a developed route tree. He can stop and start quickly on his routes. Johnson showed a variety of routes at Oregon, with production at all three levels of the field. He consistently creates separation on the final break of his routes. On extended plays, he continues to work to find open space. At the catch point, Johnson shows above-average body control.

Oregon often used Johnson on screen passes and touch passes. Johnson can make defenders miss in the open field at a high rate. He shows above-average vision with the ball in his hands, waiting for blocks to develop on screen passes. When he finds open space, he accelerates into it.

Weaknesses

Most of Tez Johnson’s weaknesses stem from his size. At just 154 lbs, Johnson is severely undersized for the position. If he were drafted at that weight, Johnson would be the lightest receiver in the NFL by about ten pounds. Typically, teams would expect a receiver of Johnson’s size to possess exceptional speed. However, Johnson ran a disappointing 4.51-second forty-yard dash at the NFL Combine. He has shown good burst on his routes, but the lack of speed could indicate an inability to stretch the field vertically in the NFL.

Johnson struggles against the press, taking too much time to get into his route. He is not consistently able to win contested catches. Though Johnson did not miss significant time due to injury in college, his size may have NFL teams concerned about his durability.

Potential Team Fits

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

New Orleans Saints

Denver Broncos

NFL Projection

Many NFL teams will remove Tez Johnson from their draft board based on his size. For those that don’t, Johnson could be a quality pass catcher in a limited role. Johnson excels with the ball in his hands, so he could be used primarily for screens and touch passes in the NFL. His refined route tree gives him a high ceiling, but Johnson will need to be afforded clean get-offs by his scheme to avoid being pressed. At his size, Johnson would be a historical outlier if he becomes productive at the next level. He projects as a fifth-round talent, largely due to concerns about how he can hold up in the league at his size.

Main Photo: Vasha Hunt-Imagn Images

Tez Johnson is a shifty receiver whose scouting report shows potential for an integral role in an NFL offense.

[1647
32605,33241
post-220760","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-draft","tag-2025-nfl-draft","tag-tez-johnson
["GET
