He comes from an athletic family that includes multiple professional athletes, including his cousin Taiwan Jones, who was a former NFL linebacker. Hairston committed to play football at Kentucky as a three-star cornerback from West Bloomfield High School. He redshirted as a freshman in 2021, and became a key contributor for Kentucky in 2023. During his sophomore season in 2023, Hairston started all 13 games, led the SEC with five interceptions and earned Second Team All-SEC honors. Despite dealing with injury and missing five games in the 2024 season, he still earned Second Team All-SEC honors.

Strengths:

Hairston is an extremely quick and explosive athlete with fluid hips and great change-of-direction speed. He is most comfortable in zone coverage, where he has good instincts and the ability to anticipate throws. Hairston effectively jumps routes and has excellent ball skills. He has good awareness on the field, and plays an aggressive style of football. Hairston recorded six interceptions and 10 pass deflections in his last two seasons at Kentucky, including an incredible game against Vanderbilt in 2023, where he had two pick-sixes and three pass deflections.

Hairston is a highly competitive corner who plays with great effort and confidence and is a willing tackler in run support. He was a team captain for Kentucky in 2024 and also had a strong showing at the Senior Bowl.

Weaknesses:

Hairston is a light cornerback, weighing around 180 pounds with a slight frame. While he isn’t afraid to play physical football, his lack of size and play strength causes some problems against bigger and stronger wide receivers. Big contested catch receivers can have a lot of success against him. Although Hairston is a willing tackler, his lack of size and play strength hold him back in run support. This can also lead to extra yardage being given up after the catch.

In coverage, Hairston is more effective in zone coverage than he is in man coverage, and he can sometimes be too grabby in man coverage down the field. He also dealt with a shoulder injury in 2024 that caused him to miss five games.

Potential Team Fits:

Atlanta Falcons

Los Angeles Rams

Tennessee Titans

NFL Projection:

Hairston fits best as an outside corner for a zone heavy team at the next level. He reads the quarterback well, has good awareness in zone coverage, and is great at making plays on the ball. His athleticism and high motor make him a promising candidate to develop well in the NFL, but his slight frame and play strength could limit him against bigger receivers. He did have a promising showing at the Senior Bowl where he played excellent man coverage throughout the whole week, which is an encouraging sign. Hairston would be a quality Day 2 pick with the potential to become a starting cornerback in the NFL.

Prospect Grade:

Early Third Round

Main Photo: [Matt Stone/Louisville Courier Journal/USA Today Network] – USA Today Sports

Maxwell Hairston scouting report and film analysis of the talented 2025 NFL Draft cornerback prospect from Kentucky, An athletic playmaker.

[1647
32605,33237,33358
post-219916","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-draft","tag-2025-nfl-draft","tag-kentucky-wildcats","tag-maxwell-hairston
["GET
